Medalia (メダリア Medaria) is a small gem-like object present on the Medals from the Medabots series.
In the games
Medalia first appeared as a decorative detail on the Medals from Medarot 2, but later became a gameplay mechanic from Medarot 3 onward. They are absent as a mechanic in Medarot 5 and in side games.
Of note, while the Medals from Medarot Navi have Medalia slots like Medarot 3 and 4, Medalia are not a gameplay mechanic in the game, so the slots cannot be used.
When they only appear as a decoration, the Medalia's color appear to have no significance. They appear to be random in Medarot 2, all are green in Medabots (GBA), Medabots AX, and Shingata Medarot, and all are red in Medarot G. An exception is Medarot S: Unlimited Nova, where they match the color of the Medal's personality, being red for Power, blue for Speed, and so on.
Medarot 3
Each Medal can have up to three Medalia attached to its lower half, and they can be used to improve the Medal's proficiency with skills, increasing its compatibility with different parts. For example, the Kabuto Medal is good with Shoot, Aim Shot, and Set Up parts, but attaching a Medalia with Strike will make the Medal compatible with Strike parts.
Like the Medals, the proficiency from each Medalia will grow with Robattles. However, the growth of Medalia is slower, and their growth limit is smaller: Lv.60. Also, attaching a Medalia that has the same skill as the Medal will not add to it, instead, the skill with the highest level will be the active one. For example, if the Medal has Shoot 28 and Aim Shot 27 and Set Up 22 and three Medalia with Shoot 25, Aim Shot 30 and Heal 27 attached to it, the final result will be Shoot 28, Aim Shot 30, Set Up 22 and Heal 27. Yet, using identical skills will make both the Medal and Medalia gain experience in battles, making it is easier to level up the Medalia. As Medalia can be swapped between different Medals, they also make it easier to train new Medals when they are obtained as they can start with the strength from the Medalia.
There are ten types of Medalia, each corresponding to a skill, and their colors match the skill's color in the game.
Color | Skills |
---|---|
Red | Strike and Berserk |
Orange | Shoot and Aim Shot |
Green | Heal and Special |
Blue | Defend and Set Up |
Purple | Support and Interrupt |
Medarot 4
The Medalia system is identical to the previous game.
Medarot DS
The Medalia system received an overall in this game. Each Medal can have only one Medalia, and they cannot level up as each Medalia has a special effect. Besides changes to skill proficiency, there are Medalia that increase stats and affect the Medaforce gauge. As some of them are game breaking, they can only be found after completing the game by doing Kurumi's quest. Not all Medalia are round in this game, some having a different shape. The game has 36 Medalia.
Medarot 7
Medalia work in a similar way to the previous game.
Medarot 8
Medalia work in a similar way to the previous game. They become available during chapter 3. This game has 26 Medalia, each corresponding to a letter from the alphabet.
Medarot 9
The Medalia mechanics changed in this game, and it is a common object, being possible to obtain them in several ways. Up to three can be set per Medal.
- Color - Determines the Robattle style (the Medal personality from previous games). If three Medalia of the same color are attached to a Medal, its style will change to the Medalia's style.
- Shape - Determines the leader effect. If three Medalia with the same shape are attached to a Medal, its leader effect will change to the Medalia's effect.
- Skills - Similar to Medarot 3 and 4, each Medalia adds skills (Grapple, Shooting, Support, Heal, ...) to the Medal.
In the anime

Medalia are visible on most Medals in the anime, but have no apparent purpose. They were referred as a core in Dr. Hushi's diagram.
In the manga
Medalia first appeared in the Medarot 2 manga as part of the Medals, but were only named and gained significance in the Medarot 3 manga.
Trivia
- The Medalia (メダリア Medaria) are similar to the Materia (マテリア Materia) from the Final Fantasy series, both in name, appearance, and as a gameplay mechanic, possibly being based on them.
