Zombiotes

Old traces, fermented in rotten blood. Discarded symbiote cells, stirred to an unholy life. A zombie symbiote. A zombiote.

Venom Symbiote[source]

Zombiotes are most commonly zombies who have been reanimated by undead symbiotes. They can be produced in two ways: with dead hosts and symbiotes being imbued with life energy by the Epsiloni,[6] or with corpses being exposed to the K-44 infectious agent developed by Alchemax.[7][2][3][5] Living beings can also be turned into Zombiotes even if not killed when infected with K-44; their bodies becoming puppets to the undead symbiote matter possessing them.[2][3][8]

History

In order to prey on symbiotes, the Epsiloni learned to use their own life energies to reactivate the symbiote traces in a dead host's system so they could be reanimated and used as bait for nearby symbiotes.[6][3] This method was used by the Captive to lure the Venom symbiote into the open,[1] but the symbiote managed to defeat him despite its weakened state. Lee Price and Mania, the dead host and symbiote the Captive reanimated to attract Venom to him, were later seized by Meridius[9] and then surrendered to Alchemax for experimentation. Alchemax scientists infused the traces of Mania in Lee's body into the K-Chemical to develop the K-44 formula, which could turn both the living and the dead into Zombiotes.[3]

Alchemax intended to use the Zombiotes to create a new line of controllable powerful soldiers, similar to the Symbiotechs,[3] and sell them to the market.[5] However, Meridius secretly planned to have the Zombiotes spread all-over the world to terraform Earth into his new Garden of Time.[10] When Black Widow and Agent Anti-Venom broke into Alchemax Tower to uncover the company's secret experiments on symbiotes, they inadvertently freed the Zombiotes from containment.[7] The Zombiotes broke out of the building and began spreading throughout Manhattan, killing and infecting anyone they encountered to increase their numbers.[2]

The Zombiotes were confronted by a number of heroes such as She-Hulk, Hellcat, Shocker, Overdrive, Wolverine, Deadpool, his pet Princess, Silence, Silver Sable, her Wild Pack, Daredevil, Matt Murdock and former members of West Coast Avengers, but they were all overwhelmed by their large numbers. The heroes were forced to retreat to temporary safe havens like Monster Metropolis and the Bar With No Name, only for the Zombiotes to pursue them and take over the people near them.[2][8][11][12][13][14]

The heroes managed to fight back and strike the Zombiotes.[15][16] The Zombiotes eventually began suffering major loses. Misery and Widow lured a large group of Zombiotes back to the Alchemax Tower where they used the sprinkler system to dose them all with Anti-Venom, freeing both living and deceased.[17] Meanwhile, the Wild Pack were hired by Misery to get hold of Shriek and attach her to the Alchemax amplifier onboard of the Mississippi Queen in order to form a sound channel in the water to prevent the Zombiotes from spreading.[18] Hawkeye, Gwenpool, America Chavez, Fuse and Jeff the Land Shark also dealt a major blow to the Zombiotes by activating a giant speaker broadcasting the Baby Shark song which freed the infected people.[14]

The Zombiotes eventually came flooding in the Grand Garden Arena where father and son, Eddie and Dylan Brock, and their allies were fighting. Realizing they were being controlled by Meridius, Eddie stole Flash's Anti-Venom symbiote to combine its powers with his King in Black's to radiate a healing aura to revert the Zombiote infection. To counteract this, Meridius used Carnage's All-Blood to reassert his control over the Zombiotes, corrupting Eddie himself in the process which forced Dylan to sever him from the Symbiote Hive-Mind.[19] However, when Meridius attempted to kill Dylan using All-Blood, the latter turned the tide after being imbued with the Eganrac and killed Meridius instead. With their master dead, every single Zombiote perished, except for Lee Price who was left imprisoned in Alchemax.[4]

Powers and Abilities

Powers

Weaknesses

K Ammunition: Bullets created by the K Department solely to kill symbiotes and their hosts.[5]

Anti-Venom Touch: The Anti-Venom, Misery and Silence symbiotes were able to cleanse the Zombiote infection and free the living people taken over.[20][11]

High-Pitched Frequencies: Keene Burke's malfunctioning hearing aid emitted a high-pitched frequency that not only pacified Zombiotes, but also made them obey any orders given to them by Keene.[21]

Miscellaneous

Type of Government

The Zombiotes are connected through a hive mind led by a King in Black at a time, with the current one controlling them being Meridius.[19] When someone attempted to control their hive mind through a technological device, the Zombiotes' feral desires overwhelmed that person's mind and took control of them instead.[5]

The Zombiotes were categorized into two groups: the "Crawlers", which were the reanimated dead that had no higher mind capacity; and the "Swingers", who were still living people that were just possessed by the Zombiote plague and therefore could still be saved.[22][23]

Cultural Traits

The Zombiotes are completely mindless, and incapable of thought. They're solely driven from their feral desire to attack anyone they see, and normal symbiotes are unable to communicate with them.[7] This was especially true for the Crawlers which were corpses possessed by the Zombiote plague, while Swingers were capable of more complex tasks.[23]
