The Toad Radar is an item in Paper Mario: The Origami King.
Usage
The Toad Radar can be used to find hidden Toads. The way it works is that the dish on top will flash brighter when Mario faces and approaches a hidden Toad. In the game, it says " The closer you are to a potential Toad, the stronger the Toad Radar will react." This is useful in tall grass, along with finding Toads in other places. Mario still obtains the item even if he fails the training.
Location
The Toad Radar is located in the Sensor Lab in Picnic Road. It can only be accessed after the Colored Pencils have been defeated in Overlook Tower. After Mario obtains the item, the Sensor Lab Toad wants him to complete a training with the Toad Radar. He has Mario enter down a red pipe to practice with the Toad Radar. Mario is not required to complete the practice to take the item.
The Toad Radar has a battery that is decreased as it is being used.
Training
All of the training takes place inside of a blank grid room.
The 1st training consists of four bushes, with each one being in a different quadrant of the room. The bush in quadrant III, or the bottom left corner, contains the Toad.
The 2nd training has a lot more obstacles including 5 tall bushes, 2 regular bushes, 2 larger bushes, 1 butterfly, 1 rock, and 9 flowers. In the upper right quadrant, there is most of the 1st tall bush. To the left are the two regular bushes. Behind them is the 2nd tall bush with the 1st larger bush being in the upper left hand corner. The 2nd larger bush is to the right of the 1st larger bush. In the bottom left quadrant is the 3rd tall bush. In the bottom right quadrant is the 4th tall bush followed by 9 flowers surrounding a rock that has the butterflying circling around it. The 5th bush is at the front in the bottom right quadrant.
The 1st Toad is the butterfly circling the rock in the bottom right quadrant. The 2nd Toad is in between the two larger bushes.
The 3rd training is a giant field with 3 Toads in it. The 1st Toad is in the upper right quadrant and is near the middle of the quadrant. The 2nd Toad is in the bottom right quadrant and is close to the front wall. The 3rd Toad is in the upper left quadrant close to the left wall.
Note that the Toads rescued in the training are not collectible Toads and are do not aid Mario in battles. However, they do give Mario a coin before disappearing.
