REFUND SISTERS

REFUND SISTERS (Korean: 환불원정대) was a South Korean supergroup formed in the MBC show Hangout with Yoo, consisting of members Man Ok, Chun Ok, Eun Bi, and Sil Bi. They debuted on October 10, 2020 with their only digital single "DON'T TOUCH ME" before disbanding on November 14, 2020.

Name

The name "환불원정대" is derived from the Hangul title of The Fellowship of the Ring, "반지 원정대" (Banji Wonjeongdae). When translated literally into English, "환불원정대" becomes "Refund Expedition", but the group's current English name is used instead.[1]

Career

During the SSAK3 segment of Hangout with Yoo, Lee Hyori suggested the idea for a girl group consisting of Uhm Jung Hwa, Jessi, Hwa Sa, and herself.[4] The group would be called "REFUND SISTERS" (환불원정대).[5] After the SSAK3 project ended, REFUND SISTERS was formed, first shown through the outro of the show's 56th episode.[6][7] In the following episodes, the group's members became Hangout with Yoo's regular casts.

REFUND SISTERS worked with their CEO and producer Jimi Yoo, as well as their managers Kim Ji-sub and Jung Bong-won. The group debuted with the digital single "DON'T TOUCH ME" on October 10, 2020 at 6 PM KST.[8] As part of the song's promotion, they held an event where vinyl LP albums were sold, and 100% of the amount was refunded to 100 album purchasers. The LP contains a digital copy of "DON'T TOUCH ME" and its instrumental version, a wordbook, and photos of REFUND SISTERS' members.[9] Their song achieved a large amount of success, charting in 101 countries[10] and gaining at least 130 PAKs.[11] Profits gained from the single were also donated to charities.[12][13][14]

REFUND SISTERS ceased activities a month after their debut on November 14, 2020 when Hangout with Yoo's 68th episode was broadcasted.[15] Consequently, the group's members no longer became the show's regular cast, including Hwa Sa.

Original Entertainment

The group was signed under Original Entertainment (Korean: 신박기획 sinbak gihoek), or Shinbak Entertainment.
