Siril

Siril river gorge - TRoP

The Siril was the chief river of Númenor.

It rose in springs from the Meneltarma, and flowed southwards to the sea in through a sandy delta, which formed the border between the provinces of Hyarrostar and Hyarnustar.[1]

Etymology

Siril is a Quenya word that meant "rivulet". It came from the word sir, meaning 'river', though the origin of the second element il is unclear.[citation needed]

In adaptations

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power

The Siril is shown to flow through Armenelos, instead of to its west. Much of the river passed through a rocky gorge, into the sides of which are carved stone faces. These are referred to as the King Stones.[2]
