My name is Varya. I've heard the Tree of Life could be a safe place to raise my cubs. Is that true?
―Varya[src]

Varya is a female tiger. She is the mother of Feliks, Pasha, and Polina.

Varya traveled with her cubs to the Tree of Life to seek sanctuary. Along the way, the family got attacked by Makucha's army, but the Lion Guard and the Night Pride came to their rescue. Afterward, the tigers were accepted as residents of the Tree of Life by Rani. Later, Varya and her cubs attended Rani's coronation and displayed their support of her reign.

Biography

Early life

Varya had three cubs: a son named Feliks and two daughters named Pasha and Polina. In an effort to raise her cubs in a safe environment, she resolved to journey to the Tree of Life.[1]

Sanctuary at the Tree of Life

I still need to find out if my cubs and I can stay here. Can you take me to the queen?

At the mountain pass, Varya and her cubs got attacked by Makucha's army, and Varya instructed her cubs to escape into the pass while she took on the army herself. However, Chuluun managed to slip past Varya and pursue the cubs into the pass. Varya tried to stop Chuluun, only for Ora to block her path.

Just then, the Lion Guard and the Night Pride arrived, defeated the army, and rescued the cubs. A grateful Varya explained that she had been trying to reach the Tree of Life in order to find a safe place to raise her cubs. Rani explained that Varya must ask the queen, Janna, for permission to live at the Tree of Life. Kion and the Night Pride then left to convene with Janna, while the rest of the Lion Guard stayed behind to care for Varya and her cubs.

Later, after Janna's funeral, Bunga spotted Varya searching for her cubs. He started to help her search, only for the cubs to tackle him. With her cubs safe, Varya explained that she still needed to ask permission from the queen to stay at the Tree of Life, and Bunga offered to bring her before Rani.

Once at the Tree of Life, Varya made her appeal to Rani, who accepted her as a new resident of the Tree of Life. Rani proceeded to lead the tiger family to a tundra forest. Upon the tigers' arrival, a musk deer named Kiril approached with his herd and protested the family's presence in his home. Rani assured Kiril that Varya would uphold the Circle of Life, and Kiril relented. He then showed Varya to a clearing where she could settle with her cubs. Before leaving, Varya thanked Rani for her help.

Later, Varya and her cubs attended Rani's coronation.[1]

Physical appearance

Varya is a large and well-built tiger. She has orange fur, with a cream-colored chest and muzzle, white fur on either side of her face, black ear tips, a bright pink nose, and black stripes along her flank. Her eyes are red.[1]

Personality and traits

Go. Run through the mountain pass. You'll be safe on the other side.

Varya is friendly, kind, and mild-mannered. Even in a crisis, she is calm and level-headed, and looks out for the well-being of her cubs. Despite being a predator, she is open to making friends with prey animals and respects the Circle of Life. She showed considerable deference to Rani, despite the young queen's inexperience, and supported her reign over the Tree of Life.

Varya is a loving and protective mother. At times, she can be quite anxious and overprotective of her cubs, as seen when she fretted over their brief disappearance.[1]
