Hawks are a species of animal native to the territories outside of the Pride Lands. They feed on small animals, such as hamerkops, hares, and hyraxes.

History

Mpishi's intrusion on the Pride Lands

But the Pride Lands are filled with delicacies you can't find anywhere else! Can you blame me for wanting to try new foods?

While on patrol, the Lion Guard witnessed a stampede of hyraxes. They wondered what the source of the stampede was and looked up to see Mpishi circling overhead. Kion exclaimed that hawks were not allowed to hunt in the Pride Lands, as it was not their territory, and Ono volunteered to talk to the intruder. As Ono raced after the hawk, Kulinda the hamerkop shielded her nest from the danger and worried what would become of her egg with such a dangerous predator in the area.

Meanwhile, Ono caught up to Mpishi and tried to convince her to let Pim go. She refused, and Ono was forced to distract her long enough for her to run head-on into a cliff face. This caused Mpishi to let go of Pim, whom Ono saved with help from Beshte. After the rescue, Kion approached Mpishi and told her that she must hunt in her own territory in order to uphold the Circle of Life. Though reluctant, Mpishi agreed. However, as she flew away, she muttered to herself that she only planned to leave after sampling more of the Pride Lands' food.

Later, Mpishi continued to scope the Pride Lands for food. As she was flying, she noticed Mwoga the vulture trailing her and demanded to know if he was following her. Mwoga admitted that he was, for hawks tended to leave behind leftovers that vultures could pick over. Mpishi explained that she was hoping to sample some new food in the Pride Lands and lamented how the Lion Guard had continually interrupted her hunts. Getting an idea, she attempted to strike a partnership with Mwoga. The two argued over whether fresh meat or carrion was better, which culminated in Mwoga agreeing to help Mpishi avoid the Lion Guard.

Meanwhile, Ono scoped out the area for Kulinda's hatched baby and spotted her wandering near a river. Fuli attempted to save the baby hamerkop from danger but arrived too late to stop her from falling into the raging water. The Lion Guard and Kulinda pursued the baby hamerkop down the river, only to watch in horror as Mpishi grasped the baby in her talons and took off for the safety of the skies.

Kulinda and Ono attempted to thwart Mpishi's plans, but Mpishi worked with Mwoga to keep the baby hamerkop from falling back into the Lion Guard's grasp. From the ground, Bunga worked out how he could help Kulinda and Ono, and climbed a tree in order to reach the feuding birds. He managed to knock Mwoga from the sky, but Mpishi only took the baby hamerkop from him and swooped out of harm's way once more.

As Ono watched Mpishi fly away, he worked out how he and Kulinda could work together, and the two flanked her from the front and the back, forcing her to drop the baby. Mpishi crashed unceremoniously to the ground, where she was surrounded by the Lion Guard and forced to return to her own territory.[1]

Physical characteristics

The only known hawk is Mpishi, who is large, sleek, and powerfully-built. She has primarily gray feathers, though her tail-tip and wing-tips are black, and she has white patches on her chest and tail. Her beak is black and white, and her eye shades are orange.[1]

Sociocultural characteristics

Hawks are known to reside outside the Pride Lands. As implied by Mpishi, their diets are not as diverse elsewhere.[1]
