Masikio

Red rock hares! Such a delicacy.
Mpishi[src]

Hares are a species of animal native to the Pride Lands. They feed on greens and seeds, and are preyed upon by hawks and jackals.

History

Victimized by Tamaa

But my leafy greens are gone. The jackals must have eaten them.
―A hare[src]

A hare was peacefully grazing when she overheard Goigoi's voice threatening her. In fear, she fled and appealed to the Lion Guard for help. As the Lion Guard investigated, the hare noticed that her greens were gone and that Goigoi was nowhere to be seen.[1]

Rafiki's tale of the Zimwi

What if it eats all of us?
―A hare on the Zimwi[src]

A young hare listened to Rafiki's story about the Zimwi. Later, the hare and her friends came to the Lion Guard for help, as they believed they had seen the Zimwi. The Lion Guard agreed to track down the beast.[2]

Mudslide

Mudslide! And those hares are right in its path! Come on!
Kion rallies the Lion Guard[src]

During a rainstorm, Masikio and his fellow hares were scared into their dens by the presence of a harrier hawk named Mpishi. Just then, the Lion Guard arrived, frightening her off. As the rain continued to fall, a mudslide started nearby, but some hares were too frightened to leave their den. Bunga attempted to coerce the hares out, but when they refused, he used flatulence to flush them from their den. After the rescue, Masikio noticed that his sister was not among them. Kion braved the mudslide to rescue her, and Masikio had a delighted reunion with her.[3]

Victimized by Shujaa

Lion Guard? A little help?
―Masikio, after Shujaa causes destruction[src]

While trying to help the Lion Guard, Shujaa the gorilla inadvertently caused damage to the Pride Lands. His destruction included a cloud of dirt that buried Masikio and his fellow hares. Bunga promptly came to their rescue, pulling Masikio out by his ears.[4]

Physical characteristics

Hares are a smaller species of animal, with long ears, flat feet, and strong back legs. Most hares have gray pelts, with pale undersides, black-tipped ears, and a black tail with a white underside.[5] Some hares, called red rock hares, have pelts that are more reddish in color. They are considered to be a "rare delicacy" by Mpishi.[3]

Sociocultural characteristics

Hares live in burrows, some of which have been abandoned by another species. Hares tend to feed on vegetation or seeds. They are flighty animals and will flee from other animals if they believe themselves to be in danger. Their known predators include hawks and jackals.[1][3]
