Biography

Early life

Chigaru lived in the Valley of Kings. He was a member of Obasi's pride.[1]

Meeting Mufasa

One day, Taka saved a fellow lion cub named Mufasa from crocodiles. Together, Taka and his mother, Eshe, escorted Mufasa back to their pride, only for Obasi to declare that they ate outsiders. When Mufasa bragged that he was fast, however, Obasi proposed that he race Taka, with the prize being either his induction into the pride or his death. As the pride watched, the two cubs raced, and Taka allowed Mufasa to win. Furious, Obasi forced Mufasa to live among the females of the pride.

Despite his father's disapproval, Taka grew fond of Mufasa and came to think of him as a brother. At one point, Chigaru pointed out that Obasi did not want the "stray," referring to Mufasa, but Taka rebuked him and forbid him from speaking about his brother in such a manner.[1]

Pranked by Mufasa and Taka

Obasi, they did it again! Your sons are nothing but trouble.
―Chigaru, after Mufasa and Taka's prank[src]

Seasons later, when Mufasa and Taka were young adults, they spooked the males of the pride with warnings about an encroaching elephant stampede. Upon realizing their trick, Chigaru declared that Obasi's sons were nothing but trouble, but Obasi countered that Mufasa was not his son and ordered him to leave the Shade Tree.[1]

Slaughtered by the Outsiders

They're coming this way, Obasi! Two lions for every one of ours! Each one bigger than the next, but none as mighty as Kiros, their terrifying king!

Later that day, Eshe and Mufasa were attacked by a pair of white lions named Azibo and Shaju. With Mufasa supporting a wounded Eshe, they returned to the pride and reported what had happened. Mufasa warned Obasi that the remainder of the white lions were less than a day away, and so, he sent Chigaru to scout the nearby area and verify Mufasa's claims. Heeding his king's orders, Chigaru spied on the white lions and witnessed them killing Azibo for having abandoned Kiros's son to die.

Panicked, Chigaru returned to his pride and reported that the Outsiders were coming for them and had twice their own numbers. He added that they would be there with the sunrise. In an effort to preserve his bloodline, Obasi sent Taka away, with Mufasa accompanying him as his protector. The next morning, the Outsiders confronted Obasi's pride and slaughtered them all as part of Kiros's campaign to conquer the Valley of Kings.[1]

Physical appearance

Chigaru was a moderately sized lion with a thin face. He had golden fur, with a bi-colored mane of brown and gold. His eyes were yellow.[1]

Personality and traits

Like the other males of his pride, Chigaru was lazy and sedate. He did not care for Mufasa and Taka's antics and reacted rather harshly to them. Ultimately, he was loyal to his king and his pride, being willing to die alongside them in their final confrontation with the Outsiders.[1]
