Walwari (왈와리) was a co-ed group under HIstar Entertainment and Nuri Entertainment. They debuted on January 12, 2017 with the digital single "Hakuna Matata".
In May 2020, Mr. Boombox revealed in an interview that the group had disbanded.[1]
History
2017: Debut with "Hakuna Matata", comebacks with "Ddang Ddang Ddang" & "Ramen"
In January 2017, it was reported that a co-ed group named Walwari, consisting of Mr. Boombox, Jyunky and Merry, would be debuting.[2] On the 12th of the same month, they made their debut with the digital single "Hakuna Matata".
On June 7, 2017, the group made their first comeback with the digital single "Ddang Ddang Ddang". This was followed by the release of their third digital single "Ramen" on August 31, 2017.
2018: "Everyday Brother" & lineup changes
On June 11, 2018, they released their fourth digital single "Everyday Brother".
On August 1, 2018, HIStar Entertainment announced that Merry had left the group to focus on her studies and would be replaced by new member Miri.[3] However, she also left the group in late 2018.
2019: Addition of Soohyun & comeback with "Oppa is Cheating"
In May 2019, the group revealed their new third member Soohyun.[4] On May 13, 2019, the group released their fifth digital single "Oppa is Cheating".
2020: Disbandment
In May 2020, Mr. Boombox revealed in an interview that the group had disbanded as the other members wanted to quit singing and he had found a new agency. He also confirmed that there was no discord between the members and they still supported each other.[1]
Aftermath
- Mr. Boombox was eliminated from Mr Trot at #29 place. He later signed with KW Entertainment and released his first solo digital single "Drink" on August 23, 2020.[5]
- Jyunky returned to being active as a MC and solo singer with the digital single "Our Time" on July 26, 2020.
- Soohyun participated in Trot Contest in November 2020 but was eventually eliminated from the competition in Episode 5, at #46 place. She later re-debuted as a member of MINIMANI on June 2, 2021 with the digital single "Stop" and made her solo debut with the digital single "Chuk & Chak" on March 1, 2023.
- Miri and Merry appeared to have left the entertainment industry.
