VIXX (빅스) is a four-member boy group formed by Jellyfish Entertainment. Originally as six, they debuted on May 24, 2012 with the single album "Super Hero".

All members participated in Mnet's survival reality show MyDOL and were chosen via an elimination system through viewer votes.

Their name is an acronym for 'Voice, Visual, Value in Excelsis'.

History

2012: Debut with "Super Hero", "Rock Ur Body"

Following the ending of MyDOL, the group made their debut as a six-member group with the release of their first single album, "Super Hero", on May 24, 2012.

On August 14, the group made their first-ever comeback with their second single album, "Rock Ur Body".

2013: "On and On", Hyde, Jekyll, "Only U", Voodoo

In December 2012, Jellyfish Entertainment announced that VIXX were in preparations for their upcoming comeback in January 2013. Their third single album, "On and On, was released on January 17.

The group's first mini album, Hyde, was released on May 20, 2013. Its repackage edition, entitled Jekyll, was subsequently released on July 31.

In October 2013, it was announced that VIXX would released a pre-release single ahead of their comeback with their first full-length album. The digital single "Only U" was released on November 8, before their full-length, Voodoo, released on November 25.

2014: "Eternity", Japanese debut, Error

In March 2014, it was announced that the group is in the final stage of preparations for their comeback, slated for release for mid-April or early May. Their fourth single album, "Eternity", on May 27.

On May 19, Jellyfish Entertainment announced that the group had signed a contract with Japanese record label Victor Entertainment to begin their promotional activities in Japan within the summer, starting in late June or early July. The group made their official Japanese debut with their first best album, Darkest Angels, on July 2.

Following their successful Japanese debut, in September 2014, the group's comeback for mid-October was confirmed. They released their second mini album, Error, on October 14 and was promoted between October and November 2014. They later released their first Japanese single, "Error", on December 10.

2015-2016: "Boys' Record", first sub-unit, Chained Up, VIXX 2016 Conception

On February 24, 2015, the group released their first special single album "Boys' Record".

In July 2015, Jellyfish Entertainment announced that they would be debuting VIXX's first sub-unit, VIXX LR, in mid-August. They debuted with their first mini album Beautiful Liar on August 17.

In October, the group announced their plans to release their second full-length album, Chained Up, on November 10.

On March 29, 2016, VIXX announced their year-long project with a trilogy called 'VIXX 2016 Conception'. They plan to make three comebacks within the year. The project began with their fifth single album, "Zelos", which was released on April 19. The second part was with their sixth single album "Hades", which was released on August 12. Finally, the third and last part of the trilogy was with their third mini album Kratos, which was released on October 31.

Following the end of the trilogy, the group released their first special album, KER, on November 21. The album includes all of the songs the group released within the past year including a new song, "Milky Way", as a gift for their fans.

2017-2019: Shangri-La, Eau de VIXX, "Walking", "Parallel"

VIXX released their fourth mini album Shangri-La on May 15, 2017, as well as releasing their third full-length album, Eau de VIXX, on April 17, 2018. These released marked the group's only comebacks within 2017 and 2018.

In 2019, the group made two comebacks with two digital singles, releasing their second digital single, "Walking", on February 1, and later on returned with their third digital single, "Parallel", on September 19.

2020: Ken's military service, Hongbin's departure from the group and N's departure from Jellyfish

On June 27, it was announced that Ken is about to start his military service on July 6.[1]

On August 7, Jellyfish Entertainment announced Hongbin's departure from the group.[2]

On November 3, Star News shared that N signed an exclusive contract with 51k. Jellyfish Entertainment has confirmed that N will not be renewing his contract with the agency, although he will continue to promote with VIXX for group activities.[3]

2022: Hyuk's departure from Jellyfish and Ravi's military service

On June 2, Hyuk posted a handwritten letter announcing his departure from Jellyfish Entertainment.[4]

On October 7, GROOVL1N announced that Ravi is about to start his military service as a public service worker on October 27.[5]

2023: "Gonna Be Alright", Ravi's departure from the group and Continuum

On December 28, 2022, VIXX announced that they would be releasing a new digital single "Gonna Be Alright" to celebrate their 10th debut anniversary which will drop on January 3. The single only features members Leo, Ken, and Hyuk, and it is the group's first comeback in over three years.[6]

On April 11, Jellyfish Entertainment announced that Ravi had departed from VIXX.[7]

On November 5, VIXX officially announced that they will be returning with their fifth mini album Continuum on November 21. Jellyfish Entertainment also announced that only three members of the group, Leo, Ken and Hyuk, will be taking part in the comeback, without the participation of leader N.[8]

2024: Ken and Leo's departure from Jellyfish

On March 4, 2024, Jellyfish Entertainment announced that Ken and Leo have left the agency after deciding not to renew their contracts, however, they will remain members of VIXX.[9]
