TEEN TOP (틴탑) is a four-member boy group formed by TOP Media. Originally as six, they debuted on July 9, 2010 with their first single album "Come Into the World".
Their name is an acronym for "Teenage Emoboy Emotion Next Generation Talent Object Praise".
History
2010: Debut with "Come Into the World"
TEEN TOP made their debut with the release of their first single album "Come Into the World" with its title track "Clap" on July 9, 2010.
2011: "Transform", Roman
The group made their first two comebacks in 2011 with the release of their second single album "Transform" on January 13 and their first mini album Roman on July 26.
2012: It's, Artist, "Summer Special Be Ma Girl"
In December 2011, it was reported that TEEN TOP would be returning with a new album in January 2012. Their second mini album It's was released on January 5.
The group made two more comebacks later in the year, with the release of their third mini album Artist on May 30 and their third single album "Summer Special Be Ma Girl" on August 3.
2013: No.1, No.1 Repackage Special Edition, TEEN TOP Class, TEEN TOP Class Addition
2013 was a huge year for TEEN TOP, as they released their first full-length album No.1 on February 25 followed by a speedy comeback with its repackage No.1 Repackage Special Edition on April 25.
Following the release of their first full-length, the group announced their fourth mini album, TEEN TOP Class, which was released on August 26, 2013. A repackage edition, TEEN TOP Class Addition was released on October 23.
2014: Éxito, 20's Love Two Éxito
In August, the group announced their plans for a comeback in September. Their fifth mini album Éxito was released on September 15, 2014. They first performed the title track "Missing" on M Countdown four days earlier, prior to the album's release. This led the group to release a repackage edition, 20's Love Two Éxito, which was released on November 10.
2015-2017: Natural Born TEEN TOP, Red Point, L.Joe's departure, High Five
In May 2015, it was revealed that TEEN TOP was in the final stage of preparations for a summer comeback. They then released their sixth mini album Natural Born TEEN TOP on June 22, using "Ah-Ah" as the main promotional title track.
In December, the group announced their plans for a January 2016 comeback. Then on January 18, the group made their comeback with their seventh mini album Red Point with "Warning Sign" as serving as its title track.
In early 2017, member L.Joe cleared evidence of the group from his social media, deleting "TEEN TOP" from his Instagram username and turning his account private. On February 9, it was revealed that he had requested a termination of contract with his agency, TOP Media, after L.Joe reportedly had wanted more solo activities and was subsequently restricted.[1]
In March, the group were in the final stage of preparations for a five-member comeback in early April. It was later revealed that they would release their second full-length album Hi Five on April 10 and was promoted between April and May 2017.
2018-2019: Seoul Night, TEEN TOP Story : 8pisode, Dear. N9ne
In April 2018, it was reported that the group is set to make a comeback with their new album in early May, marking their first comeback in exactly a year. Their eighth mini album Seoul Night was released on May 8. Its repackage edition, TEEN TOP Story : 8pisode was released on July 3 to celebrate their 8th anniversary since debut.
On May 15, 2019, TEEN TOP dropped a scheduler for their summer comeback album on June 4.[2] On this day, their ninth mini album Dear. N9ne was released with "Run Away" used as the main promotional track.
2020: "To You"
On July 9, 2020, for the group's 10th year anniversary, TEEN TOP announced that they would be releasing a new version of their 2012 song "To You" as well as a fan song.[3] "To You 2020" was released the following day.[4]
2023: Resurgence in popularity, C.A.P's departure, TEEN TOP [4SHO]
Following a resurgence in popularity due to their appearance on MBC's How Do You Play? on March 18, 2023, past TEEN TOP's songs started to climb back up to the charts. On April 3, TOP Media shared that the group is positively reviewing the possibility of a group comeback, although nothing has been decided yet.[5] On April 29, during a guest appearance on the radio program Cultwo Show, member Chunji confirmed that the group is preparing for a comeback.[6] On May 3, TOP Media announced that the group will be releasing a new album in July.[7]
On May 11, TOP Media announced that group member C.A.P would simultaneously depart from TEEN TOP and terminating his exclusive contract with the agency following discussions with the members after a controversy surrounding C.A.P during a live broadcast, and that the group would be reorganized into a four-member system.[8]
On June 14, TOP Media announced that TEEN TOP will be making their comeback on July 4 with the mini album TEEN TOP [4SHO].[9]
On December 28, TOP Media announced that members Chunji and Ricky would depart from the agency after their contracts had expired and decided not to renew. However, the agency reached an agreement with all four members and stated that they will continue activites together as TEEN TOP.[10]
