Lee Chanhyuk (이찬혁) is a South Korean singer-songwriter and producer under YG Entertainment. He is the main rapper, composer, and lead vocalist of the sibling duo AKMU (Akdong Musician).
He made his solo debut on October 17, 2022 with the studio album Error.
History
1996-2014: Early life and career beginnings
Chanhyuk and his younger sister, Lee Suhyun, were born in South Korea. When he was in elementary school, their father's missionary work caused the family to move to Mongolia. Due to his parent's financial difficulties, his parents suggested they be home-schooled.[1]
He started singing, dancing, and playing guitar as a way to pass time, as he could not hang out with friends. During his rebellion phase, he focused more on composing songs. Between middle school and high school, his family moved back to South Korea and they started attending regular schooling. He and his sister began busking and auditioning for agencies to help their family financially.
In 2013, the siblings auditioned for K-Pop Star 2 as Akdong Musician and won, selecting YG Entertainment as their agency. In April 2014, they made their debut performance on K-Pop Star 3 with "Melted" and "200%".[2]
2017-2019: Enlistment
Chanhyuk enlisted in the Marine Corps on September 18, 2017 to gain valuable life experience like his friends and for inspiration in songwriting.[3]
On May 29, 2019, it was announced that Chanhyuk has completed his service.[4]
2022: Solo debut with Error
On October 5, YG announced that Chanhyuk would release his first solo album titled Error on October 17.[5]

Relationships
On October 20, 2022, rumors spread online claiming that Lee Chanhyuk is currently dating fromis_9 member Lee Saerom. YG Entertainment stated that they can not confirm it as it is the artist's private life, while Pledis Entertainment did not comment on the matter.[6]
On January 21, 2025, it was reported that the couple broke up last year after about a year of dating. YG Entertainment refrained from confirming the rumors, citing artist's privacy.[7]
On January 23, 2025, it was reported that Lee Chanhyuk is dating actress Ha Ji-su, which notably acted in his music video for "Dance". YG Entertainment responded that they can not confirm as it is the artist's private life.[8]
