StreetPass

This article is about the 3DS feature. For the online features shared by the 3DS and the Wii U, see SpotPass.

StreetPass is the 3DS line's local wireless main communication feature. By walking around with a system of the 3DS line, players can share data with another player within a close proximity indicated by an LED green light on the right shoulder of the system. A green dot will also appear on the lower right corner of an application to signify that another player has data for that application.

In the Kirby series

Kirby: Triple Deluxe and Kirby: Planet Robobot

Bandana Dee StreetPass

If the player connects with another StreetPass user who own a copy of Kirby: Triple Deluxe, then both players will receive a random keychain. A stage's image preview will also have a green dot on the upper right indicating that StreetPass has been activated for that stage. When the player enters the stage and finds Bandana Waddle Dee, the StreetPass user's Mii's face will appear next to him and he will throw an Assist Star with either an Energy Drink or a Maxim Tomato in it. The users will also share each other's best times for Dededetour, The Arena, and The True Arena.

Likewise, Kirby: Planet Robobot shares the same features as Kirby: Triple Deluxe, only players receive stickers and times for Meta Knightmare Returns instead if the StreetPass user has data for Kirby: Planet Robobot. A green dot will appear on the upper left corner of each menu option for both games indicating StreetPass data is available for that mode.

Kirby Fighters Deluxe, Dedede's Drum Dash Deluxe, and Kirby's Blowout Blast

In these expanded eShop games, StreetPass has no direct functionality, however, if the player has StreetPass data for Kirby: Triple Deluxe, then the player will unlock the Bell and Beetle Copy Abilities as well as the Waddle Dee Train Tracks stage for Kirby Fighters Deluxe and the Kirby, Meta Knight, and Waddle Dee masks for Dedede's Drum Dash Deluxe. If the player has StreetPass data for Kirby: Planet Robobot, then the player will unlock the Robobot Armor and Susie statues in Kirby's Blowout Blast.

StreetPass Adventurers

If the player StreetPasses with a user who also owns the game, then the StreetPassed user will have their data stored in the StreetPass Adventurers option on the Touch Screen. When the option is tapped, then the player will receive one to three of the three elemental fragments and possibly a few Gem Apples. The StreetPasser's profile stats from when they were StreetPassed at the time are shown: their level, how many of each medals were collected, their region, their username, their Heroic Rank, "Quests Cleared", "Gameplay Time", "Total High Score", their personal greeting, their pose, and their current weapon and armor. The color of the Kirby of the StreetPass Adventurer is random and will appear in the Dream Kingdom's Village where the player can press Up on the control stick to view their profile again. These adventurers can be brought into three quests before parting ways. Having too many summoned adventurers will have the older ones depart in order of arrival.

Similarly to the previous eShop expanded titles, if the player has data for Kirby: Planet Robobot, then the player will unlock the Susian Bolt Blade and the Haltonian Helm.

Kirby's Extra Epic Yarn

When you receive rooms, a mark will be displayed on the Model Room's update button (↻). If you then tap the update button, you can view the rooms you've received.

Players can share their interior designs of one of the three rooms of Kirby's Pad with other members via StreetPass; the name of the rooms will also be shared. To select the desired room to share, the player must tap on the StreetPass symbol to the right of the "Change Layout" button. A confirmation will then appear confirming that the current room will be shared via StreetPass. When a player receives a StreetPass, they can select the "Model Rooms" options on the Touch Screen (or press R) in Kirby's Pad to view the room(s) that was/were shared with them. New StreetPass rooms can be updated by tapping the update button.

This feature was mainly designed to show off the new interactable furniture and mats with other players, however due to the game releasing near the end of the 3DS family line's lifespan, this feature received poor reception. Kirby's Extra Epic Yarn was the final first-party title for the Nintendo 3DS, and, as such, the final Kirby title to utilize StreetPass.

In the Super Smash Bros. series

StreetSmash

In Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS, there is a game mode that functions only with users who have StreetPass for the game called StreetSmash, although players can practice this mode with CPUs even without StreetPass. The game functions similarly to Smash Ride (moreso the version from Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe although that game came out after for Nintendo 3DS) where a group of tokens controlled by players hold the A button and charge up an attack that launches their token to knock off other tokens. Once the player's token is knocked out once, the game is over. If the player wins, they are rewarded with gold and an additional trophy or piece of equipment.

Every playable Kirby character can be used as a token in this mode by simply choosing a character while changing their StreetSmash Profile, however if the player has not unlocked Meta Knight or King Dedede (or any other unlockable character in the game) yet, their icons on the token are represented with a "?" instead when fighting a StreetPass user who has one of them as their personalized token.

StreetPass Mii Plaza

StreetPass Mii Plaza is the pre-installed software that comes with every 3DS line system that mainly revolves around the StreetPass function as the name implies. Here, players can customize their Mii to wear certain outfits and say a personal message in a speech bubble of choice. The player can dress their Mii character in the following headgear: Kirby Hat, Waddle Dee Hat, King Dedede Hat, Epic Kirby Hat, Prince Fluff Hat, and Meta Knight's Mask. Players can also customize their speech balloon to the Kirby-themed one.

In the StreetPass Plaza, there exists a pre-loaded game called Puzzle Swap where the player can collect puzzle pieces to complete an array of Kirby-themed panels. These panels are unlocked by collecting pieces from StreetPass users who have pieces the player has not obtained yet. Alternatively, the player can use two Play Coins to randomly obtain one puzzle piece with the risk of obtaining a duplicate piece. The Kirby's Dream Land panel is the only Kirby-related pre-downloaded panel; the rest also listed below were introduced via SpotPass, but can be earned via StreetPass if someone has pieces for them.

Most cinematic panels have secret within them that can be found by rotating the Circle Pad to move the camera. There are three Miiverse posts about the Puzzle Swap panel by Kirby series design director Yumi Todo. The first one talks about the Kirby: Triple Deluxe one, the second one is about the Kirby's Return to Dream Land panel, and the third one is about the Kirby Fighters Deluxe and Dedede's Drum Dash Deluxe panel.

There also exists one Kirby series badge from the Nintendo Badge Arcade application that acts like the StreetPass Plaza application icon that also gets a green dot on its lower right corner to indicate a StreetPass for the StreetPass Plaza has appeared.

Trivia

  • A 3DS system is able to store up to 12 titles of StreetPass information. A game that utilizes StreetPass will always ask the player to register the game's StreetPass data onto the system. If the player has no more storage, StreetPass will not be activated for that game; this can be configured in the System Settings under the "StreetPass Management" option by deactivating another game. Kirby Fighters Deluxe, Dedede's Drum Dash Deluxe, and Kirby's Blowout Blast are the only Kirby titles to not take up any StreetPass storage as they are only able to read StreetPass information from other titles.
  • StreetPass notifications from a user who has their system set in a different language will have the message appear in that language.
