Dr. Tom Paech, PhD.[1] was a member of Project Zero Dawn, being part of the team working on the ARTEMIS subordinate function.
History
Background
Tom Paech had a Ph D. in molecular and cellular biology, as well as being a firm believer in the beauty of nature.
Project Zero Dawn
Upon being kidnapped and informed about Project Zero Dawn, Paech was furious to learn the true nature of the Faro Plague and their creation at the hands of Faro Automated Solutions, especially its founder Ted Faro.[1] Paech was skeptical of the project and of ARTEMIS, as he believed that humanity was too irresponsible to rebuild Earth's biosphere. However, he was convinced otherwise by Charles Ronson. Agreeing to work on the ARTEMIS team, Paech followed through, wishing to be euthanised instead of evacuating to Elysium, which he distastefully saw as claustrophobic and saw himself as an outdoors man.[2] Ronson made a promise to Paech that he would be with him during his last moments of life.[3]
Unfortunately, due to the Faro Plague's rapid advance during the evacuation/euthanization of the Zero Dawn team, Ronson was forced to choose between preserving a final shipment of Paradisaea zygotes, or attending his euthanasia as he had promised. Under stress, Ronson chose to try and save the samples, leaving Paech to die alone. After the event passed, Ronson blamed Paech for forcing him to choose.[3]
