Wade Whipple is a supporting character in the Sonic Cinematic Universe. He is a fellow police officer of Green Hills, and Tom Wachowski and Knuckles the Echidna's best friend.
He is portrayed by Adam Pally.
History
Sonic the Hedgehog (2020)
Wade Whipple is a Deputy Sheriff working under Tom Wachowski. He usually sits in the office while Tom goes on patrol. While on the run from the mad scientist Dr. Robotnik, after helping Sonic the Hedgehog escape from authorities, Tom calls Wade in a phone booth while the latter happens to be surrounded by government agents. Wade tries to subtly warn Tom about the agents when Dr. Robotnik yanks the phone from him to threaten Tom before leaving the office to continue his pursuit. Wade claims that he will tell everyone about what had just transpired.
Near the end of the film, where Dr. Robotnik was about to eliminate Tom and his wife Maddie in the middle of Downtown Green Hills after severely wounding Sonic, Wade fires a warning shot at Dr. Robotnik and rallies the citizens of Green Hills to stand against the doctor, although he later tries to get Crazy Carl to put down a chainsaw. When Sonic wakes up after Tom stated that he was his friend, Wade, along with Tom, Maddie, Carl, and every other resident, take cover as Sonic deals with Dr. Robotnik by damaging his aircraft and sending him to the Mushroom Planet with Tom's help. Afterwards, Wade continued to work alongside Tom when the Wachowskis decided to stay in Green Hills instead of moving to San Francisco.
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (2022)
During Tom and Maddie's trip to Hawaii, Wade is made acting Sheriff of Green Hills in his superior's absence. He is visited by Sonic and Tails at his house when they needed a place to lie low while Dr. Robotnik and Knuckles the Echidna search for them. Inside Wade's house, Sonic activates a hologram of Longclaw that informs him and Tails about the Master Emerald while Wade asks if the owl was Tails' mother.
Sometime later, Wade stops by the Mean Bean Café while on duty and finds it odd that it was closed early. He manages to take a peek inside and discovers that it was a front for Dr. Robotnik's secret base. Wade barges through the café door branching his gun and cuffs Agent Stone to a chair to interrogate him. Unfortunately, the interrogation does not go well, but Wade alerts G.U.N. of his discovery before Dr. Robotnik suddenly returns to the café wielding the Master Emerald's power. Unable to stop Dr. Robotnik in his new form, Wade is cuffed in Agent Stone's place as G.U.N. military surrounded the location outside. Although he isn't seen again after this, it's possible that he was uncuffed by authorities.
Sonic Drone Home
Wade doesn't appear in the 2022 short film, Sonic Drone Home. However, he was mentioned by Sonic. When Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles went to the junkyard, Sonic said, "We're on an investigation. Wade told me there have been weird noises up here at night."
Knuckles (TV series)
In the show, Wade is trained by Knuckles to become a warrior after Pachacamac tells him that he must help him with a bowling tournament against his father Pistol Pete Whipple.
Episode 1: The Warrior
In episode 1, Pachacamac tells Knuckles to train Wade. Maddie wants Wade to pick her up and take her to work but Wade is busy. Meanwhile, Wade's best friend Jack kicks him out of the team. Knuckles finds Wade and starts to train him. They get in their car and starts to drive to the bowling alley. Wade asks Knuckles if he can call him different names, but he refuses. They get in the bowling alley as Wade tells Knuckles about his past. The two rogue GUN agents, Mason and Willoughby, attack and kidnap Knuckles as Wade is left there alone.
Episode 2: Don't Ever Say I Wasn't There For You
Wade goes to a store and buys stuff to save Knuckles. A quick montage shows Wade saving Knuckles with "I need a hero" playing. We all learn it's just Wade's imagination. Wade does go to the mansion. Wade tries the plan as the two rogue GUN agents watch confused. Wade then flies through the window as Mason looks for Wade. Wade puts hot sauce on Mason. Wade then confronts the other rogue GUN agent, Willoughby. Wade shoots something to free Knuckles as the place explodes. Wade and Knuckles leave as they stop by for food. Knuckles tells Wade out of one to warrior he is a three. Wade jokes about dating. Wade and Knuckles leave as they listen to "Rock you like a Hurricane". then the radio announces that bounty's are out for him. At the end, Wade stops by his Mom's house as she passes out.
Episode 3: The Shabbat Dinner
Wade visits his mom, Wendy, and his sister, Wanda, seeing them for the first time since two years, three months, and thirteen days ago. When Wade introduces them to Knuckles, Wendy passes out. She also mispronounces Knuckles' name, but Wade corrects him. Wanda scans Knuckles. At the dinner table, they eat dinner as Wade and Wendy have a little fight. Wendy tells Wade Knuckles helped destroy and save the Earth. Wade says he was there and explains him confronting Agent Stone in a less detailed way. Wanda thinks it's fake as Wendy yells at them. Wade doesn't understand what he did to get yelled at. Wade says his father wasn't a shmuck, he was his dad. Knuckles goes to check on Wade as he's crying. Knuckles finds a cardboard cutout from American Gladiators. Wade tells Knuckles to stop. He notices posters as Wade explains them. Wade tells Knuckles to go get desert as Knuckles does just that. Bounty's come for Wade as the whole family is in trouble. One Bounty targets Wade as Knuckles saves him. After the whole battle, the family with Knuckles gather to light up some candles.
Episode 4: Flames of Disaster
A day later after the Bounty's destroyed the house, Wade woke up in a good mood. Wade was saying good morning to neighbors when Jack drags him. Wade is confused as Jack puts him in a cage that is attached to his car. Knuckles tells Wade to fall asleep as Wade wakes up in his dream as Pachacamac tells him he will go through what Knuckles experienced in a musical opera. Wade sees Jack as Jack starts singing as Wade is confused. The song plays as when the song is over Wade and Jack have a sword fight on bikes. Wade cuts off Jack's hair as Wade takes Jack's cloths. Jack runs away embarrassed by what Wade had done. The town cheers as Wade returns home. The episode ends as Knuckles and Wade ride in their motorcycle continues to travel to Reno with Wendy and Wanda joining and following them with a car.
Episode 5: Reno Baby
Wade and Knuckles arrive at Reno and meets up with Wendy and Wanda. Wade is ready to bowl as he reunited with his dad, Pistol Pete. Knuckles tells Wade what to say. Pete and Wade share a moment as Wade tells Pete he's bowling too. Pete starts laughing. Wade and Pete compete with other teams as they make the final two. Wade goes to Pete's residence as Wade is amazed. Pete tells Wade he's sorry for a different reason. He reveals the two rogue GUN agents trapped Wendy and Wanda. The rogue GUN agents tell Wade to get Knuckles. Wade goes to Knuckles and tells him there's a surprise.
Episode 6: What happens in Reno, stays in Reno
It's revealed that he informed Knuckles about the situation and planned an ambush before heading to their room and sending him to Pete's. He rescues Wendy and Wanda while Knuckles fights off the rogue GUN agents sending them on a loop through the portal rings. Wade continues the tournament and manages to defeat his father. Shortly, he assists Knuckles in his fight against the agents' employer, The Buyer, using Mason's gauntlets given by Wendy and Wanda and motivating him when his powers are drained. Inspired, Knuckles wakes up and regains his powers. The duo work together to defeat The Buyer. He went back to the bowling alley to retrieve his trophy. With the quest completed, Wade and Knuckles travels back to Green Hills with a motorcycle.
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (2024)
Wade was entrusted by Knuckles to protect the Master Emerald from anyone seeking to use its power. One day, while he is using it as a hockey puck on the roof of Green Hills police station, a vengeful Sonic appeared through a Ring Portal, demanding Wade to hand the Emerald over to him. Wade refused, telling Sonic about his responsibilities as the emerald's protector, only for the hedgehog easily swipe it from his arms, activate his Super form, and leave.

Trivia
- Despite Knuckles being the titular main protagonist of his own TV series, Knuckles, the former doesn't have as much screentime as Wade during the second half of the series. In fact, he was receiving less screentime than Wade, which led to negative reviews by many fans.
- In Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Wade implies that he lives with his mother. But in the Paramount+ series, Knuckles, it's revealed that he hasn’t seen his mother for two years, three months, and thirteen days.
- His tense relationship with his sister might be a reference to the multimedia gag in which the police and the FBI don’t get along very well.
- In episode 4 of the Knuckles Paramount+ series, Wade's solo in the song performed isn't sung by Adam Pally. Instead, Michael Bolton dubs Wade's parts.
- Wade mentions Ghostbusters a lot in the second movie. This suggests that he might be a fan.
- In a deleted scene for the first movie, Wade said that he went ice fishing with Tom. In the prequel comic for the second movie, we see Tom and Wade do just that.
- In a deleted scene for the first film, Wade flirts with Rachel, Maddie's sister, suggesting he might of fancied her. However, it's unknown if this still the case as the scene is removed.
- Wade's exclamation of "THE FLAMES OF DISASTER!" in the finale of the Knuckles TV series would become a meme in August 2024.
- Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is the only film where Wade has less screentime. It's also the only film where none of the characters (excluding Sonic) interact with him.
