Biography
Tri and their kind are a species created by the Golden Goddesses with the task of keeping cosmic rifts from opening across Hyrule. However, monsters eventually captured them to let the rifts grow and swallow up the land, sending it all to a realm called the Still World where everything would gradually disappear. Tri themselves were held captive at Suthorn Ruins by a large monster called Ganon until a young swordsman named Link defeated him in battle to save Hyrule's princess, Zelda, from his grasp.
Tri makes their first in-game appearance as a shining light after Link is dragged down into a rift and Princess Zelda is freed from her imprisonment. They draw Zelda's attention to the hood Link discarded before battling Ganon when the rift that consumed him suddenly expands rapidly and they both quickly escape the ruins to safety. Tri follows Zelda back to Hyrule Castle where her father, the King of Hyrule, and his subjects are pulled into a rift and replaced by imposters who have her imprisoned. Tri appears to Zelda again in the castle dungeons and is surprised that she can actually see them. They tell Zelda that it was their duty to mend rifts and with her help they can save people like her father that have been taken by them. Tri helps the princess by giving her the Tri Rod to create echoes and escape her prison cell, but as they both make their getaway, they encounter Zelda's caretaker Impa who is baffled that the king would suddenly turned against his own daughter. Zelda explains what was happening and how she escaped with Tri's help only to realise that Impa cannot see Tri floating in front of her, yet she believes Zelda's story nonetheless. Impa points them in the direction of Suthorn Forest where they can find someone who could help them further, but they eventually arrive to find the area had been already swallowed by a large rift, prompting Tri to tell Zelda about their kind (whom they referred to as their friends) and how they could rescue them to restore the land taken by rifts.
Sensing their friends trapped within the rift, Tri finds an entry point on it they can use to safely travel into the Still World and make their way to Suthorn Ruins, the same place they themselves were previously held captive. Before the duo enter however, they come across one of the King's subjects, Minister Lefte, floating frozen in the Still World. Tri assures Zelda that everyone stuck in the rift will return to normal back in Hyrule once the other Tris are saved and Suthorn Forest is restored. Zelda is faced with new obstacles inside the ruins that Tri helps her get through by using their Bond and Reverse Bond abilities until they both manage to defeat a giant monster holding Tri's friends inside its body. Tri then joins their kind in closing the forest rift, causing it to disappear completely and bring back everyone and everything that was floating within it.
Returning to Hyrule, Tri and Zelda meet with Minister Lefte and Impa's older brother Lueburry to discuss recent events caused by the rifts. Tri is surprised when they are able to see them while others like Impa cannot, which Lueburry believes the rift must of changed them somehow to make this possible. As their discussion continued, Tri mentions that physics in the Still World work differently to those in Hyrule and that the king might be somewhere other than the castle, as seen with Minister Lefte. It was decided that the best chance of finding the missing king was for Tri and Zelda to mend two other big rifts at Gerudo Desert and Jabul Waters by rescuing the Tris likely held captive there.
Powers and Abilities
- Creating Echoes: Tri can allow Zelda to use the Tri Rod, which is able to create copies of objects and monsters called Echoes. Zelda can learn how to make them either by interacting with sparkling objects or with "Shimmers" left behind by slain monsters. The number of Echoes that can be produced depends on the amount of triangles Tri possesses, as Echoes will cost one or more triangles to make. However, Tri can level up by clearing rifts which can cause more triangles to appear or reduce the cost of making Echoes. Tri can also use this power to mend rifts in Hyrule with the help of the other Tris.
- Bind: Tri can launch themselves at objects and monsters to hold them in a magical beam. Zelda can then move them around and utilise the environment to manipulate its hight or distance. They can also use this ability to pull things out of the ground.
- Reverse Bond: While using Bind, Tri can allow creatures and moving objects to carry Zelda around in order for her to reach different areas.
- Closing Rifts: Tri can combine their power with those of the other Tris to mend any rifts that appear in Hyrule, restoring the land to its original state. Anyone caught in the rifts will also be returned to Hyrule from the Still World.
