Sean Macguire is a supporting character in the 2018 action-adventure video game Red Dead Redemption II and its spin off 2019 multiplayer Red Dead Online, He is a reckless and cheerful Irish-American bandit, as well as gunman for the Van der Linde gang.
He was voiced by Michael Mellamphy.
Biography
Sean was born in Ireland, the son of an outlaw named Darragh MacGuire, and would travel to the United States at a young age. His father would later be killed and Sean would become a small time thief.
At some point, MacGuire attempted to assault Dutch Van Der Linde and Hosea Matthews, as he wanted to steal a watch from them. The robbery failed, but instead of killing him, Dutch and Hosea took him into his gang.
Sean participated in the Blackwater Massacre, where the gang attempted to rob a ferry in the city. Sean survived, but was captured by bounty hunters. Josiah Trelawny would discover his whereabouts and, along with Arthur Morgan, Charles Smith and Javier Escuella, they would infiltrate the bounty hunters' hideout, where they would murder them all in order to rescue Sean. Sean is grateful for this and calls Arthur "a great man", but Arthur tells him to leave.
Sean would later participate in some jobs for the gang. For example, he assisted Arthur, Charles, and John in robbing a train in New Hanover in Chapter 2, and in Chapter 3 he helped Arthur burn down the Gray family barn on orders from the Braithwaite family.
Sean would later reunite with Bill Williamson, Micah Bell, and later with Arthur, to do a job for the Gray family that required protection. As Sean is talking, he is suddenly shot in the head by a sniper, killing him, before the Gray family begins firing at the gang. Arthur, Micah and Bill managed to survive, but sadly Sean died. Arthur is saddened by his death and angry at Bill and Micah for their carelessness. He then asks Bill to bury Sean in a warm place, before leaving the place. Sean's grave can be found north of Clemens Point.
Personality
MacGuire is a young man who wants to earn his place in the gang as a gunman. Often, he is underestimated by his peers due to his idiocy. Sean is also known to drink and talk a lot, which tends to annoy fellow gang members.
Sean appears to have a sibling relationship with Arthur Morgan. He often mocks him by calling him "English" and asking if his parents were Jacobites or something like that, which annoys Arthur. Arthur also doesn't seem to have much confidence in his abilities as an outlaw. However, when Sean dies, Arthur is saddened by his death and says in his diary that Sean was like a brother to his. Just like all the members of the gang, Sean doesn't like Micah Bell.
Sean also appears to have a romantic relationship with Karen Jones.
