Patty (パティ, Pati?) and Carne (カルネ, Karune?) are supporting characters in the manga and anime series One Piece. They are a duo of cooks of the ocean-going restaurant Baratie and companions of Sanji during his training at the restaurant.
Patty was voiced by Tetsu Inada in Japanese, Chuck Powers in the Odex dub, Robert O'Gorman in the 4Kids dub and Jeremy Inman in the Funimation dub, in the live-action he is portrayed by Brashaad Mayweather. Carne was voiced by Shinobu Satouchi in Japanese, Joseph Murray in the Odex dub, Sean Schemmel in the 4Kids dub and Charles C. Campbell in the Funimation dub.
Biography
Patty and Carne are veteran chefs of the Baratie and among its first employees. Known for their violent tempers and love for brawling, they were fired from hundreds of restaurants before finding a perfect fit with Zeff’s unorthodox ad looking for "damn cooks." At the Baratie, they thrived—able to fight and cook freely—and developed a love-hate rivalry with Sanji, Zeff’s protégé, often clashing with him while still holding a rough sort of respect.
Their chaotic personalities caused frequent disruptions, including the mass resignation of the restaurant's waitstaff after Patty’s insults. Tension rose when Patty threw out a starving Gin, an act that Carne warned could provoke retaliation from the infamous Krieg Pirates. Sure enough, Krieg’s devastated fleet arrived days later. Despite being near death, Krieg was fed by Sanji—against the protests of both Patty and Carne—only for Krieg to reveal his true colors and attack the restaurant.
During the ensuing conflict, Patty and Carne fought bravely alongside the Baratie staff to defend their home. They launched artillery attacks and took down enemy pirates, but were ultimately overwhelmed by the powerful Pearl. As chaos unfolded, they witnessed Gin taking Zeff hostage and were stunned by Sanji’s refusal to fight back, due to a debt he owed Zeff for saving his life years ago.
Their understanding deepened after Gin spared Zeff and chose to battle Sanji instead. When Krieg unleashed his deadly MH5 poison gas, Patty and Carne risked their lives to pull Zeff to safety. Following Luffy’s defeat of Krieg, the two chefs helped treat the poisoned Gin and reluctantly provided the Krieg Pirates with a boat upon Sanji’s request.
Afterward, they participated in an emotional ploy to push Sanji toward following his dream with the Straw Hats, pretending to insult him and reject his cooking. Despite the rough send-off, their farewell was filled with tears and mutual respect. In the following years, Patty and Carne continued working at the Baratie, each eventually running their own dessert and auxiliary ships. Though their antics never ceased, their loyalty to Zeff, Sanji, and the Baratie remained strong—proving there’s heart behind the fists.
