Kurozumi Tama

Kurozumi Tama better known as Tama or O-Tama is a major supporting character of the Wano Country Arc. She befriended Luffy when he first arrived in Wano.

After Orochi and Kanjuro’s death, she is sole survivor of the Kurozumi clan, which no one is aware of her heritage nor does she have any loyalty for them. She became Shinobu's apprentice to one day join the Straw Hat Pirates.

She was voiced by Megumi Han in Japanese and Sarah Wiedenheft in English.

Background

At the age of four, Tama lost her parents, due to intense labers caused by Beast Pirates and Kurozumi Orochi as a result she was an orphan with Komachiyo as her companion, due to which she turned against Orochi despite him being a fellow Kurozumi. She was trying to earn money by weaving kasa and selling them, but the customers are too poor to pay. However, Hitsetsu arrived to buy her hat, gave her hope that the Kozuki Clan will being peace, and take her in to live in Amigasa Village.

At some point, when Ace and his Spade Pirates arrived washed up in Wano Country, she and the people in the village tied them up and took their food. When Ace broke free, he ask if you guys want to have deserts. Tama and Ace became close. She wanted to join the Spade Pirates, but Ace didn't want her to join because she is too young. However, he promise to let her join if she grew old enough.

Appearance

O-tama is a little girl with a purple hair and black eyes, and a roundish cherubim face. She wore a green kunoichi outfit, originally with roughly stitched patches as makeshift repair due to lacking resources or wealth to properly repair or replace her outfit. After Wano's liberation, she wore a similar attire, but now free from wear and tear.

Personality

Tama is an exceptionally kind, gentle, adventurous, and brave young girl. Even given the poverty she is forced to endure, she tries to maintain a friendly and upbeat attitude; although this optimism was largely a facade she used, since revealing her true despair would make her vulnerable to harsher treatment than she would already face from Kaido's Beast Pirates.

While her positivity is false, if inspired by hope, it could become real, as it did when she met Ace, and again when meeting Luffy. She becomes enraged with Luffy when he bluntly tells her that Ace had died, but eventually he provided the same sense of hope that the late Ace did, and she understood that Ace's legacy survived in his adopted brother. Much like Ace, Tama views Luffy with great affection like a brother, and she addresses him as such. Although, there is a semblance of an innocent crush developing as Luffy gradually enables Wano's liberation from the corrupt Orochi and Kaido.

Due to her meagre upbringing, even the smallest gift of food would evoke immense gratitude and joy. Yet despite her own starvation, her selflessness would drive her to share all of her own food to help another avoid hunger instead.

Her Devil Fruit power grants her command over any animal that consumed it, yet she always treats them with kindness and always expresses gratitude when they obey. Despite their malice, when she subjugates SMILE-powered Beast Pirates, she similarly expresses the same compassion, even for ones that had bullied or directly hurt her.

She is in awe of strong women, especially kunoichi, hence her ambition to become one; though, she also holds respect for Nami, Nico Robin, and gender fluid Yamato. She seems to hold a sense of respect for voluptuous women, as she comments on how she was impressed with Nami's ample chest, while also expressing a desire to grow up into a "bewitching" woman like her, too. Part her hope to be bewitching may also tie into her affection for Luffy, as she tells him she hopes to see him again when she had become a "bewitching kunoichi," though it is also plausible it's simply an innocent desire to be seen as exceptional by Luffy in the same way he views his crewmates.

Power and Ability

Physical Strength

In first, she was weak at age 8. However, when she was trained by Shinobu, Tama gain superhuman strength when she easily broke free and kicked Holdem.

Devil Fruit

Tama ate the Kibi Kibi no mi, which allows her to produce dango coming from her cheek. For those rice ball it can fed to animals and the effect will allow them to be tamed and follow her command. The taming effect cannot be used on humans, however, they are effective toward successful SMILE users. It can't be used toward natural Zoan users. Those dangos can't be used to alleviate hunger. Also, the effect can only last a month afterward either the animals will stay loyal to her or choose to leave.

Synopsis

When she was ordering rice for her eighth birthday, she accidently mentioned about the Kozuki Clan in front of the Beast Pirates. As a result she was captured by them until she was rescued by Luffy. She demonstrate her ability to Luffy by taming a giant baboon and they became friends.

After arriving Amigasa Village, she cooked rice for Luffy for rescuing her. Since there were no more rice, she had to drink water from the polluted river, which got her sick. Hitetsu and Luffy saw that Tama got sick and learned the sad news from Luffy that Ace died that she fainted.

When she woke up while on they are on the way to another in Kuri, she was crying over she thought that Luffy was lying about Ace's death, but Luffy stated that is true. This made Tama wanting to beat him up for it until she faint again. She remained unconscious though out with Luffy reuniting with Zoro, then their fight with Hawkins, and finally Tsurujo offering to help Tama recover.

Once she is better, Tsurujo gave her oshiruko for her birthday. At first she was hesitant, but she ate and loved it as it was her best birthday she had.
