Gray Voice is a supporting character who appeared in the Metroid Manga series. He is a Zebesian Chozo who donated his genes to Samus Aran in order to help her survive the dangerous atmosphere of Zebes after her parents were killed by the Space Pirates. He is close friends with Old Bird.
Biography
Gray Voice first appears with the rest of the Chozo when they received a distress call from the colony K-2L. They find it to be decimated by the Space Pirates and they find a three-year-old human girl named Samus Aran, the only survivor of the massacre. They take her under their care and Gray Voice was initially against bringing Samus to the planet Zebes since there are only a few habitable areas for humans, but he eventually agrees to do so as there was no other way, and he proceeds to donate his DNA to Samus to help solve the problem.
When Zebes came under attack by the Space Pirates, Gray Voice staged an act of assisting Mother Brain in helping the Space Pirates take control of the planet he called home and becoming a leader with her. Both of them offered Samus a position, but she turned them down. Eventually, the time came when Gray Voice betrayed Mother Brain and the Space Pirates and led an attack against her with full ancient Chozo armor. Gray Voice would later fight against Ridley and despite giving it his all in the battle, Ridley managed to impale him with its tail. In his last moments, Gray Voice makes his final request to Samus that though her fate may be hard, he implores her to help people across the universe and tells her that he is proud of her while calling her his child as Ridley uses its plasma beam to finish him off.
Trivia
- As Metroid Dread's climax reveals that Samus carries two types of Chozo genetics, with Raven Beak being the donor of the Mawkin DNA, it's strongly implied in the flashback sequence that Gray Voice was the donor of the Thoha DNA, which makes him the reason why Samus did not immediately turn into a Metroid when she was injected with the Baby Metroid's DNA in Metroid Fusion.
