Goto Ryuji is a supporting character in the Korean manhwa and light novel series Solo Leveling. He was an S-Rank hunter and the strongest hunter of Japan, as well as the guild master of the Draw Sword Guild.
In the past, in the 14th story of Hunters Origin of Kanae Tawata, where he serves a supporting character, Goto was admired by Japanese citizens, seen as a heroic figure with great intentions, especially by Kanae Tawata. Therefore, Goto's outsanding powers as a hunter inspired others like Kanae to become a hunter as well. However, after Kanae joined Goto's side, she noticed that Goto's motives have changed, becoming obsessed with gaining power and reputation, disappointed that he no longer was the well-intentioned man he once was.
Appearance
Goto was a Japanese man possibly in around his late 20s with long messy hair and sharp eyes that glow gold when his powers are used. He also had a black beard short beard. When he participated in the 4th raid of Jeju Island, he wore a dark outfit with golden parts and wielded a katakana as a weapon of choice.
Personality
Goto generally portrays himself as a calm and friendly man with a carefree attitude as Japan's strongest hunter. But in practice, he is actually an arrogant, egoist, and self-absorbed individual who cares little for others, showcased by his cold decision of forsaking his Korean comrade hunters to perish and even his hunters of his own country did not gain his sympathy; when their corpses were discovered; Goto was indifferent. His desperate pursue for power and overly arrogance led him to show frustration during his duel against the Korean S-rank hunter Sung Jinwoo who was clearly on another league compared to Goto in terms of physical abilities as hunters.
