~ Eddy Gordo |
Eddy Gordo is a major character in the Tekken video game series. He made his debut in Tekken 3 and returned for all subsequent installments. He learned Capoeira from his master during imprisonment.
He was voiced by Marcus Lawrence in Tekken 5, Roger Craig Smith in Tekken 6 and DC Douglas in Street Fighter X Tekken.
Appearance
Eddy is a Brazilian man with dreadlocks styled in a ponytail. Some of his dreadlocks are blond on the tips. He wears an eyebrow piercing as well as rings and an earring. In the vast majority of games, Eddy's outfit uses the colors of the flag of Brazil, his country of origin.
Personality
Eddy is generally cool-headed and laid back. He also seems to be very loyal, going out of his way to repay the kindness offered to him by the Capoeira master. As seen in his Tag 2 ending, Eddy built an orphanage in Brazil and ran it together with Christie, also teaching children Capoeira, and thus kids look up to him highly. He would try to hide his vengeful tendencies to children as well, but the kids knew better.
However, in Tekken 8, Eddy undergoes a positive development. After failing to save his master and seemingly meeting his demise due to his revenge path, he is rescued by Yoshimitsu and Lidia convinces him that people can rise again from hardships, leading him to use this chance to re-evaluate his master's teachings and focus on saving people. By this, Eddy also believes that anyone also deserves second chances, such as his fellow Tekken Force soldiers and Jin, and he stops seeking revenge against those who have wronged him.
Abilities
Known for his unique fighting style, Eddy Gordo proudly represents Brazilian capoeira, incorporating a variety of acrobatic maneuvers and martial arts. He is also a skilled and world-renowned fighter, who employs a wide range of powerful kicking attacks and moves.
Story
Past
Eddy was born into one of the richest families in Brazil. Ever since he was a small boy, he knew he would one day take over the family business. He was well-liked in his hometown because he was a hard worker who treated others as his equals.
One day, when he was 19, Eddy came home from school to find his father shot and dying. He recalled that his father had been unusually nervous and fearful in recent weeks. Eddy's father was working to destroy a drug business in Brazil at the time. His untimely death occurred just when he had obtained enough evidence to put the kingpins away for good. In his last breaths, Eddy's father told him, "Now is not the right time to fight. Falsely admit to the crime and hide in prison. Only there will you be safe". Eddy went along with his father's last wish and the model student went from a life of luxury to incarceration as a murderer. Prison life was hell and not a day went by that Eddy didn't vow to get even with his father's killers. One day during a prison riot, he watched an old man with great power fight using a technique he called Capoeira. For eight years, Eddy practiced until he became a master and could be considered a lethal weapon. During this time, his master asks him to go train his granddaughter Christie Monteiro once he is released and Eddy promises to do so.
Tekken 3
Upon his release from prison, Eddy heard about the third King of Iron Fist Tournament and the Mishima Zaibatsu. He decided to enter the tournament, believing he could persuade the MFE to help him seek his long-awaited revenge. During this time, Eddy breaks into a drug lord's mansion, attacks and interrogates him about who had his father and had framed him for the drug lord points to a picture on his desk, which turns out be Kazuya Mishima.
Tekken 4
Eddy keeps his promise to his master and trains Christie. Afterwards, Eddy disappears during this time to seek vengeance against Kazuya. Worried, Christie enters the fourth King of Iron Fist Tournament to find him, as this was the only clue that can lead her to him.
Tekken 5
Eddy's master was about to be freed from prison after a long incarceration. Eddy went to the prison to meet his master but instead found a frail old man that was only a shadow of the strong Capoeira master he once knew. Upon taking his master to a hospital, Eddy was told his master had an incurable illness and had less than six months to live. However, it may be possible to discover a cure if they had access to the technology and resources of the Mishima Zaibatsu. Several days later, Eddy decides to enter the fifth King of Iron Fist Tournament with Christie.
Tekken 6
Eddy fails to win the fifth tournament. After discovering that Jin Kazama became the new head of the Mishima Zaibatsu, He meets up with the new CEO and Jin offered to lend him his money and resources to save his master's life. If Eddy joined the Tekken Force, he promised to find a cure for his master's illness. Eddy joins the Tekken Force, and he is involved with a number of military operations just as the sixth King of Iron Fist Tournament approaches. He appears when He, Jin, and Nina Williams go to inspect a laboratory that was attacked by the rebel leader Lars Alexandersson. After a soldier report everything that happened there, Eddy asks what they are going to do and Jin says he will handle the situation, and Eddy reminds them they have already lost two positions to the rebel army. Jin mocks him and says his forces were weak, which upsets Eddy. The CEO then reminds him of the deal he made when he joined the Tekken Force about his master. He later appears when Lars and his men attack the Tekken Force 4th Special Forces Operation Group Compound (in which he is the commander) and is defeated by the rebel leader.
Tekken 7
Eddy's master died despite his efforts to save him. Eddy reunited with Christie at his burial, where she expressed her anger with him over his absence. Furious that the drastic measures he'd taken to get treatment for his master were in vain, Eddy severed ties with the Mishima Zaibatsu.
At some point, Eddy opened an orphanage in Brazil. He taught the children in his care Capoeira. One day, however, he left to pursue revenge against Kazuya Mishima. Eddy traveled to G Corporation's Millennium Tower in an attempt to find Kazuya, who was ruling G Corp from the shadows. He was confronted instead by Lucky Chloe, an idol working with G Corp.
Tekken 8
Ultimately, Eddy ends up leading a one-man assault on G Corporation, carving a path through Kazuya's soldiers and even his newest employee Lucky Chloe until finally meeting the man himself at the top of the Millennium Tower. He, however, is no match for Kazuya whose Devil Gene has grown beyond the man's own limits after his defeat and murder of his father Heihachi. As Eddy is beaten to within an inch of his life and about to be finished off by Kazuya, he is saved by the timely intervention of Yoshimitsu, who reunites him with a figure from his past who he has not seen in over 10 years. The figure advises Eddy that the path forward is not revenge, but redemption, and Eddy sets out to retrain himself in the ways of Capoeira. His training completed, Eddy realizes he should be using his skills to save as many people as he can from Kazuya's twisted regime. Seeking to atone for his misdeeds as a Tekken Force member, Eddy enters the eighth King of Iron Fist Tournament with renewed perspective and resolve.
Unforgotten Echoes
Eddy gathered a number of former Tekken Force soldiers who wished to atone for what they had done and met with Lars Alexandersson onboard Yggdrasil's flying base, Víðópnir, with the intention of assisting them in their efforts against Kazuya Mishima. Lars sparred with Eddy to test his resolve and deemed him an appropriate ally. Jin Kazama, who was a key part of Yggdrasil's strategy, then emerged to meet with Eddy, acknowledging that Eddy must despise him for all he asked him to do while he was leader of the Mishima Zaibatsu. Eddy fought with Jin, confronting his own demons as he did so, and, at the close of the fight, Eddy told Jin that his choices had been his own. Jin apologized regardless, and Eddy told him they would now fight side by side as friends.

Lidia contacted Eddy as he was leaving Yggdrasil’s base, telling him to proceed next to the Mishima Zaibatsu’s base in South America to negotiate with the Tekken Force there. She then relayed fresh news that an attack was being made on the South America base by G Corporation forces. Eddy traveled to the base and confronted G Corporation’s soldiers. Nina Williams, his past associate in Tekken Force, engaged him in a fight during the battle. Nina expressed surprise at the change in Eddy’s demeanor, but stated that she was leaving the battleground with the data she’d gathered. Eddy rallied the Tekken Force present at the ruined base and urged them to join him, which they appeared receptive to. However, Nina made a pass over in an aircraft, stating that she had a "parting gift" for Eddy. Several Jack-7 units, armed with additional explosives, were deployed. In an effort to protect the Tekken Force soldiers, Eddy rushed at the androids and threw himself at them, managing to kick them some distance away. The units detonated and, though the Tekken Force soldiers were initially concerned that Eddy had been caught in the blast, Eddy emerged unscathed from the flames.
Eddy informed Lidia of his success in allying himself with the South American Tekken Force. He also made her aware of data gathered from the base regarding the ‘Tekken Monks’, an organization whose existence had first been confirmed six months prior. Some time later, Eddy accompanied Lidia to a Tekken Monk stronghold. He spectated some of her training with Heihachi Mishima. Later, he and Yoshimitsu informed her of Heihachi’s betrayal of the monks. He joined Lidia and Yoshimitsu in confronting Heihachi, but the three of them were soundly defeated by him.
