OVA

The Samson (サムソン Samuson?) is a Zeon's ground transport truck appeared in anime series Mobile Suit Gundam[1] and later, ONA Mobile Suit Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance.[2]

Technology & Combat Characteristics

A mega-size truck used by Zeon's Earth Attack Force to ensure the strategic mobility of Zeon mobile suits on Earth. The Samson trailer was capable of carrying one standard Zaku-type mobile suit or a MS-07B Gouf, and could be covered with a canopy.[1] The Samson consisted of a trailer platform to be towed by a frontal tractor unit known as Samson Top.

Armaments

  • 2-barrel Machine Gun
A pair of 2-barrel machine gun turrets were mounted on the top of the cab, which could be used while attached to the trailer or as the Samson Top.

Special Equipment & Features

  • Samson Top
A hovercraft which forms the cab part of Samson's tractor unit which could be detached from the tractor chassis and the trailer, and allowed it to function independently as a combat hovercraft with a pair of double machine gun turrets being mounted on top. While originally designed as an escape mechanism, the Samson Top could also be used as a troop transport due to its large cabin. However, as the trailer that separates from it has no auxiliary engine or driver's seat, and if the Samson Top is destroyed while it is detached, the trailer will lost its function as a transport vehicle.

History

The Samsons were used by Cpt. Ramba Ral's unit to transport mobile suits and vehicles.[1] Following Ral's death, his lover, Crowley Hamon, used the Samson Tops against the White Base due to her troop's lack of weaponry.[3]

Zeon's ground units in Eastern European frontline also possessed Samson trailers, including the Stein Battalion which utilized several Samson units for the resupply of mobile suit weapons and ammunitions after the recapture of EFF military headquarter in Cluj-Napoca, Romania in November U.C. 0079;[2] Another Samson which belonged to Maj. Rolph Ronet's convoy was used to carry Iria Solari's Zaku II on route to the Odessa space port later in the same month.[4]

In U.C. 0080, following the end of the war, the EFF saw the value in the vehicle and began producing it using captured production lines, resulting in their widespread use in certain parts of Earth. An unarmed, civilian variant of the Samson was also produced.[5]
