He is a scientist at Neo Japan and the developer of the Shining Gundam, Rising Gundam and God Gundam. He is a fellow scientist and old friend of Kyoji Kasshu and Domon's father, Dr. Raizo Kasshu, and has a close family relationship with the Kasshu family. When Domon decided to win the 13th Gundam Fight on the condition that his father, who had been sentenced to be frozen, be freed, he gave Domon the Shining Gundam that he had developed himself, and assigned his daughter Rain Mikamura as his support.
Although Dr. Mikamura ostensibly supports Domon along with his daughter, he is in fact one of the masterminds behind the Devil Gundam incident. Mikamura is basically a warm-hearted man who loves his daughter, but deep down inside he has always been jealous of and has a complex about Raizo, who has always been ahead of him as a scientist. When Raizo developed the Ultimate Gundam (later to become the Devil Gundam), which incorporated his three major theories (self-regeneration, self-propagation, and self-evolution), the emotions he had suppressed for years exploded. He conspired with Ulube Ishikawa to bring Raizo down and take away the Ultimate Gundam.
After Schwarz Bruder was wounded after his match with Domon Kasshu, Dr. Mikamura attempted to silence him by killing him. However, Rain overheard their conversation, Dr. Mikamura revealed the entire plot and his jealous rage. Rain convinced her father that his foolishness had caused the members of the Kasshu family to suffer which led him to reconsider his actions.
After he helped Allenby Beardsley recover from the DG cells, Dr. Mikamura apologized to Rain while he revealed his intent to turn himself in for his crimes and acknowledged that he didn't deserve to be her father. However, Ulube soon retrieved the Devil Gundam and revealed his intentions of using Rain as the biological unit although the doctor wanted to shut the Devil Gundam down forever. Attempting to warn her, Dr. Mikamura was shot while doing so. Though mortally wounded, he called Domon for help via colony communication, and when Domon and the New Shuffle Alliance came up into space, he told Domon of his plans to defeat the Devil Gundam that had assimilated with the colony of Neo Japan and his apologies, and entrusted Rain's rescue to Domon. In his final moments, he tearfully talks to Raizo, who is sleeping in the capsule, and blows up the bulkhead to create an entrance to the colony, at which point he dies and his body is thrown into space along with Raizo's capsule.
In "Super Class," Kyoji tells him that Raizo, highly praised his talent, saying, "The ideal machine is the Rising Gundam, a high-performance machine that does not depend on its rider, and that Mikamura, who created it, is a true genius". He is told that his talent was highly regarded and that Raizo was also jealous of him, causing him to have a complicated expression on his face.
