The Sandbox is a biome that is located in the lower western section of the Backyard. It is one of the most dangerous biomes due to its lethal creatures, thirst-draining debuff, and the sizzle effect.

Overview

The Sandbox is mostly barren, full of some trash and various plastic toys. Many Antlion pits are also scattered around this biome, making it very dangerous to venture in the area. These pits also have caves that can be accessed by killing the Antlion inside of it and looting their body. Along with this, Buried Treasure can be found in the sand and dug up with a Black Ant Shovel. A small "oasis" that contains a water puddle, which can also be found in the southeast corner of the biome, is full of foliage and water to give safety from the heat as well as resources needed to build an outpost. A sand castle can also be found in the southwestern corner of the biome. This castle has plenty of Buried Treasure around its perimeter, but is also infested with many Antlions.

To reach the biome, the player can travel via the Black Anthill, finish a premade zipline located on top of the Picnic Table, or simply build up.

Sizzle Effect

The sizzle effect is one of the most lethal features in the biome, similar to the Haze's gas. The effect will slowly increase on a small bar that appears once the player stands in the open sun and will quickly kill or slow them down, if fully increased. It can be lowered and negated by standing in shade or in water. The effect will not affect the player during night/sunset and rise, and will fill more slowly if they are wearing Antlion Armor or have eaten the Quesadillantlion for the Sizzle Protection effect. Equipping the Fresh Defense mutation also gives considerable protection against the Sizzle. Eating Mint Shards reduces the Sizzle Effect Bar.

The BBQ Spill also has this effect, but it only takes place near the hot coals and is not affected by the day and night cycle.
