Summary

Mutsugi laughed maniacally now that Souma on her side as her thrall and intending to break Zango free from Gate of Destruction's seal. He struck the petrified Zango at the forehead, weakening its hold over the Gate before engaged Ryūga in a heated duel as Koyori helplessly watched. Mutsugi attempted to attack the Golden Knight before being stopped by Koyori, angering her that she responded by conjuring mine-like glyphs against her. Conflicted she may, Koyori, who managed to evade the lethal attack, engaged her former mentor and mother figure in a heated duel.

Reaching out for the corrupted Souma while fighting him was a challenge for Ryūga, which didn't helped by the young title-less Makai Knight had a hard time breaking free from Mutsugi's Inga-fueled brainwashing. In fact, Souma struggled as much as the Golden Knight did; Mutsugi's spell made him hallucinating Ron insulting his status. Worse still, Mutsugi escalated his situation by exposing him to additional Inga, causing him to hallucinate Koyori also. Remembering Godou's high opinions about his son whom he viewed as his hope as much as everyone perceived Garo as theirs, Ryūga strengthen his resolve to save his mentor's son no matter what.

Despite hopelessly outmatched, Koyori steeled her resolve to beat some sense out of Mutsugi. Mutsugi took her time in seeing the looming reopening of Gate of Destruction — a fatal mistake which allowed Koyori to tackle her back into Labyrinth of Arvis to bring their duel there. Koyori rightfully pointed out how their fights together all this time brought her this far, citing how much she aware with her kindness and love for people more than anyone else in addition of dedication to help others. She then demanded Mutsugi what drove her to open the Gate. Mutsugi bitterly reminded her student about Makai Order's mission and how she used to think of such noble cause warranted peace until the harsh reality of people with darkness in their hearts still roamed about and did heinous deeds as they pleased and not susceptible to Horror assimilation left her disillusioned. If anything, it took more than dealing Horror threats to bring forth true, absolute peace to the world. To Koyori's understandable disgust, Mutsugi's answer was judge people based on their future to decide whether a person was worthy to live or not, utterly opposing Makai Order's believes in free will.

Souma fought Mutsugi's Inga-fueled spell from the inside, resulting his assaults on Ryūga increasingly sloppier. To Ryūga's confusion, the young title-less Makai Knight hallucinated Godou expressing his disappointment in his son. Hallucination!Godou criticized Souma for being too emotional hence his shortcomings all this time. Godou's image flickered into that of Ryūga in his perspective — a sign of progress in the Golden Knight's attempt to reach him in real world.

Koyori's determination still burned as she endured more of Mutsugi's assaults in order to prove her fallen mentor wrong. Unimpressed, Mutsugi knocked her to her knees with another magic blast.

Souma's battle continued as he faced his father's hallucination who demanded him to do what Mutsugi said as her thrall. When he found himself in a doubt, Ryūga appeared on his side and reminded him to find the answer within battle himself. So, he steeled his resolve to overcome his inner demons with Ryūga's support. Koyori similarly affirmed hers as a Makai Priestess to remain on the correct path. Momentarily restrained by Mutsugi's mass of Inga, Souma finally learned hallucination!Godou being the embodiment of his inner demons all along once his opponent finally assumed his likeness. So, he delivered a titanic strike to disperse it, finally overcoming his inner darkness at last.

Souma finally awakened in real world as himself but, neither he nor Ryūga had time to appropriately reassess their situation because Mutsugi returned with restrained Koyori in her mercy. To Mutsugi's shock, not only Koyori refused to join her, but Souma had overcome his own darkness and now stood with Ryūga side-by-side. Their confrontation soon halted by petrified Zango's destruction, leaving nothing to prevent Gate of Destruction's reopening. All remained was Iruva which Souma promptly retrieved. Everyone looked on as the sphere holding the Gate falling apart next...
