The Metal Dome is a location in the Savage Divide region of Appalachia. It is situated north of Fort Atlas.
Background
The Metal Dome was created by a gang of Blood Eagles, calling themselves the Rust Eagles, led by Buzzsaw, after salvaging nearby structures.[1] Initiate Pappas explains to the Vault Dwellers that the inhabitants test all their battle bots at the location.[2] Pappas' intends to participate in combat in order to learn more and report back to Scribe Odessa Valdez.[2]
Layout
The entire location is comprised of makeshift walkways, robot detritus, and construction equipment surrounding a battle arena. Viewing booths are dotted along its perimeter, and a throne overlooking the arena is surrounded by flamethrowers. Several train cars have been converted into workshops.
Inhabitants
- Buzzsaw
- Amp
- Beatrice the Wrench
- Rust Eagle fanatics
- Initiate Pappas (rotation)
- Brotherhood rifleman (rotation)
- Brotherhood scout (rotation)

Notable loot
- Blood Eagle code - Note, in the same hut as the inventory list, on a metal end table, on a shelf underneath some bottles of alcohol.
- Care to test your metal? - Note, on a yellow diagnostics cart on the southern side of the location, near the broken robobrain display.
- Killbot inventory list - Note, on a table in the metal hut on the second level.
- The Decadent Metal Dome - Holotape, on a wooden box.
Notes
- The Metal Dome was first added in the Steel Reign update. It finished construction with the release of the Invaders from Beyond update. With its construction complete came various graffiti that can be found in the dome:
- "Who Killed the World?"
- "Bite My Rusty Metal Ass"
- "Stand in front of These" (located in front of a fire trap)
- "Come closer" (located in front of a fire trap)
- "Safe space" (by graffiti of a flower) (located in front of a fire trap)
- "Hey You Awake?"
- "Winner Winner Radstag Dinner"
- "Pipe Is Life" (inside a giant pipe, a reference to a note found in a random encounter involving a pipe)
- "Oh what a day What a lovely day"
- When the Metal Dome was first added in Steel Reign, it was populated by hostile Blood Eagles. The Invaders from Beyond added the friendly Rust Eagles NPCs to the location, while Test Your Metal added the associated event.
Appearances
The Metal Dome appears only in Fallout 76, introduced in the Steel Reign update. It was expanded upon with the Invaders from Beyond and Test Your Metal updates.
Behind the scenes
- The "What a day" and "Who killed the World?" pieces of graffiti are references to the 2015 film Mad Max: Fury Road.
- The "Bite My Rusty Metal Ass" graffiti is a reference to Futurama and the catchphrase of character Bender.[Non-game 1]
- The "Winner Winner Radstag Dinner" graffiti is a reference to the phrase "winner winner chicken dinner."
- Level designer Steve Massey suggested the in-game location for the dome, because it was a relatively underutilized area. However, it was a frequent spot for player CAMPs, which made it a difficult decision.[Non-game 2] Fellow level designer Craig Bernardo worked on the creation of the location, including its "under construction" version[Non-game 3] and final version.[Non-game 4]

Initiate Pappas: "We have orders from Scribe Valdez to document the combat capabilities of the Rust Eagle bots. We're deep in Rust Eagle territory now, and that means we need to beat them at their own game. They call this arena the Metal Dome and battle test all their bot designs here. My team will head down to the ring and face three rounds of combat against their newest bots. At least one of my teammates needs to make it out of the ring so that we can escape with what we've learned and make our report to the Scribe."
