Tracey

Tracey is the mother to Tom and the former barmaid at The Queen Victoria. She is portrayed by Jane Slaughter, whom made her first appearance on 19 February 1985.

Backstory

Tracey began working on Bridge Street Market prior to 1985. Tracey's husband cheated on her when their son, Tom was very young, so she divorced him. Because of this she rarely saw Tom, even when he and his partner Angela had her two grandsons. Tracey has long standing friendships with Sameera and Ethan. On 1 May 2017, it's mentioned Tracey moved from Walford to East Ham and has had two divorces and a cancer scare. On 30 August 2022, Eve Unwin mentions Tracey has grandkids.

Storylines

1985-1990: Working on the market and becoming a barmaid

1991-1996: Engagement and hen party

On 25 May 1993Sharon Mitchell tells Nigel Bates that she will be late for his birthday party as she would be attending a hen party, which Grant Mitchell confirmed was because Tracey was getting married. After Nigel meets and kisses Debbie during his birthday party, he asks Tracey where Debbie was: she replied that she left in a cab, but really likes Nigel and thinks he is sweet.

1997-2002

2003-2008: Fling with Dennis

On 14 April 2003, Tracey has a one-night stand with Dennis Rickman, the adoptive half-brother of former pub owner Sharon Watts when he arrives in Albert Square, despite the fact that she is married. The day after, he returns her knickers to her publicly over the bar.

In 2005, Sam Mitchell breaks into the pub with a crowbar and Tracey discovers her, asking her to leave. Sam knocks Tracey out with the crowbar and drags her, unconscious, into the bathroom, locking her in. She goes downstairs to unearth the body of Den Watts who is buried in the basement. On 29 August 2005, Tracey breaks out of the bathroom and calls the police, who arrest Sam. The wedding party return and are shocked to discover a body has been found in the Vic. Sam stares at Chrissie Watts with glee as she is driven away. Chrissie is panic-stricken and when the police arrive, Tracey is comforted by Little Mo Mitchell.

On 7 August 2008, Tracey opens up when Sean Slater questions why she is so quiet. She says she wants to keep herself to herself because she thinks that the Mitchells are all "stark raving mad" and that she does not fear any new barmaids as she had seen them come and go but she knows that she will always be behind the bar.

On 23 September 2008, Pat Butcher pays Tracey extra to cover for Peggy so the two can enjoy time together, but Peggy declines Pat’s offer.

2009-2014: Helping behind the bar

She attends Peggy's hen party and Peggy and Archie's wedding on 2 April. On 16 April 2009, Shirley Carter accuses Phil Mitchell of drinking again.

On 28 April 2009, Tracey answers the phone to Minty Peterson questioning Phil's whereabouts from the night before. Tracey tells Phil about having to talk to the bank about some money issues. Following that, Phil pressures Tracey into talking about her feelings, supposedly for him, mentioning her husband in the process. Finally, she appears again towards the end of the episode wanting to help Ben Mitchell get to school as Phil is too drunk to assist him. Phil, flirting with Tracey, tells her that her husband will not mind.

On 30 April 2009, she finds Heather Trott's lost inhaler.

On 30 July 2009, she phones in with a back injury, and Peggy says it was unlike her to skive so it must be serious. Dot Branning describes Tracey as the person who "sees everything but says very little."

On 8 September 2009, Peggy tells Sam that Tracey still holds a grudge against her.

On 24 December 2009, Archie Mitchell and Janine Butcher take over the pub, ousting Peggy and her family. Tracey is unhappy with the way Archie and Janine treated Peggy and the rest of the Mitchell family, and the straw that broke the camel's back comes the next day when Janine tells Tracey to put some tinsel in her hair and asks her to keep an eye on the Christmas dinner. Tracey leaves a note saying "Gone fishing", implying that she resigned. The next day, Tracey is present when Ronnie is arrested on suspicion of Archie's murder, and looks shocked. She also attends Jean's party on the 11 January 2010.

On 18 January 2010, Tracey appears behind the bar in a non-speaking capacity for The Queen Victoria's reopening. On 22 January 2010, the pub's new owner, Roxy Mitchell, gives Tracey a warning for arriving two hours later, but Peggy explains that she asked her to come in late as she has done a lot of unpaid overtime recently. Peggy tells Tracey on the phone that she is not sacked but Tracey hangs up.

After the Vic burns down, she gets a job in the chip shop, which she then quits when The Vic is rebuilt.

On 14 January 2011, Tracey appears behind the bar, questioning landlady Kat Moon's decision to reopen the Vic, following the 'death' of her baby and offering to cover while Kat takes a break. Kat asks if she scares Tracey, adding she sometimes scares herself. Tracey jokingly responds that she wouldn't like to be on the receiving end of Kat's harsh tongue. She then proceeds to enquire about how her son, Tom, is.

On 28 March 2011, Tracey babysits Tommy Moon.

In December 2013, the Carter family - the new owners of The Queen Vic - tell Tracey she has lost her job as they want to run a family business. Shirley overhears this and explains to Mick and Linda that Tracey is the heart of the pub and that she shouldn't be fired because she's been working there for years. When the Carters face troubles with the barrels in the barrel store, they apologise to Tracey and ask her to return to work.

2015-2020: Temporary unemployment

On 22 April 2016, she is part of The Queen Vic Ladies Dart Team.

On 7 October 2016 she attends Whitney Dean's hen party.

On 14 March 2017, Whitney mentions Tracey has taken "her Tom" on holiday. In April 2017 Tracey gets sacked from her job at the Queen Vic by Woody Woodward the new Bar Manager. After people complain about her sacking, Vincent Hubbard runs over to her and offers her a job. She is later hired again by the Carters.

On 17 February 2020, Tracey reveals to Mo Harris that she and Phil Mitchell slept together. On 4 March 2022, Tracey informs the Carters that the police are here to see them, the police then tell the Carters that Tina Carter's body has been found.

2021-: Birthday and reuniting with Tom

On 4 July 2022 - Part 2, Tracey talks with Avery Baker while walking through the Square Garden. On 13 September 2022, Tracey overhears Sharon, Shirley and Kathy talking about their time with Phil, and says he was the best sex she had ever had.

On 20 February 2023, Tracey is working, but leaves before Linda Carter starts a lock-in. On 31 July 2023 Elaine Peacock accuses Tracey of stealing £200 from the till, but Linda does not believe her, saying she trusts Tracey with her life, however Gina Knight tells her that it was Anna Knight. On Christmas Day 2023, Tracey attends Sharon Watts and Keanu Taylor's wedding.

In late 2024, it's revealed that Tracey hasn't spoke to her son in some years after he moved closer to his dad, however he makes an appearance at Tracey's 60th birthday party. Tracey's friend, Sameera, who organised the part, invites Tom to stay the night, to which he accepts. He makes a secret phone call telling the person on the other end of the line that their 'little issue' may now be sorted.

The next day Tracey questions Tom about his wife Angela, and their boys, and he tells her everything is fine. When he comes to Walford with his mum, he reveals that he is in debt, and Tracey realises he was just using her to access extra money. She shuts him out, before having a chat with Elaine Knight, and decides to give him some money. Tom then meets with a mystery woman, who asks if he's told Tracey about her. Tom tells the woman they have to wait for the right time. It's soon revealed that this woman is Molly, Tom's new girlfriend. Molly reveals that Angela and Tom divorced the prior year, and even that Molly is now pregnant. Tracey is hurt that Tom hadn't told her sooner, but after a chat, where Tracey tells Tom that his dad cheated on her, the two reconcile. Tom and Molly tell Tracey they're having a baby girl, and invite her over to a baby shower with Molly's parents. Tracey later heads to the Vic. Whwre her Sameera, her best friend, sets her up on a date with Ethan, another long term friend of hers.

On 16 January 2025, Elaine says that Tracey gave her a lavender candle for shirts but it smells horrific, and tells Anna Knight she can give it to Cindy Beale. When the Queen Vic explodes, Tracey is inside but escapes unharmed. In April 2025, She attends Martin Fowler’s funeral and wake.
