Jader

Jader is a city in Orlais. It is situated in the eastern part of the country, on the coast of the Waking Sea, right at the border with Ferelden.

Background

Jader is the nearest major Orlesian city to Ferelden. Because of this, it often serves as a place for negotiation between the two countries.

Jader claims to be the birthplace of the prophet Andraste, vying for the title with several other settlements in Thedas, most notably Denerim, the capital of Ferelden.[1]

During the Fifth Blight, Jader was one of the cities that experienced a large influx of Fereldan refugees, which led to an outbreak of disease and famine.[2]

As a civil war brews in Orlais, Grand Duke Gaspard de Chalons attempts to conscript archmage Wynne when she crosses through Jader, but she refuses his offer.[3]

Once Gaspard puts the plan to overthrow Empress Celene into motion, luring Celene out of Val Royeaux and launching a coup d'etat, rumors arise that Celene holed up with her army at Jader, and that Gaspard has cut off the western highway.[4]

After the purge of Halamshiral, Celene's troops are ambushed by Gaspard's forces. Celene and Ser Michel manage to escape. They plan to retreat and rally their forces at Jader, a city that belongs to Lady Seryl, a noblewoman loyal to Celene. However, the way is blocked by Gaspard's scouts, so they head for Val Royeaux instead.

Meanwhile, Lady Seryl sends her men to destroy villages where troops loyal to Gaspard may have billeted themselves to discourage the peasants from aiding the rebels.

Dragon Age: Inquisition.

The ruler of Ferelden reaches out to the Inquistor to request aid in uprooting Venatori cultists in the Royal Palace at Denerim. With the aid of the Inquisition's agents, four Tevinter spies and a possible plot to assassinate the monarch are discovered. Once the Orlesian Civil War is resolved with the help of the Inquisition, the ruler of Ferelden writes for a second time to ask that they help facilitate peace talks in Jader between Ferelden and Orlais. The Inquisition sends Josephine Montilyet to moderate peace talks, and the conflict is avoided.[5]

A resident of Jader is suspected of being an abomination. When the Inquisition's agents investigate the matter, it's discovered that the man in question, Noam Willit, is actually a mage whose powers recently manifested.[6]

If the Inquisitor is of dwarven origin, the Inquisition may contact Comte Gerard of Jader to inform him about lyrium smuggling in the Storm Coast. This leads to discovery and elimination of a Venatori group that was hiding from Comte's coastal guard.[7]

The Inquisition lays siege of the Adamant Fortress in the Western Approach using siege equipment and personnel provided by Lady Seryl of Jader.[8]
