Kremkoins are golden coins rewarded for completing Bonus Stages in Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest and Donkey Kong Land 2. Kremkoins are key items needed to access the last world of the game. They were replaced by Bonus Coins in the following games, Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble! and Donkey Kong Land III.
History
Donkey Kong Country 2
Donkey Kong Country 2's Kremkoins are exclusively used to pay Klubba's fine at Klubba's Kiosk in each world in order to enter the Lost World to stop Kaptain K. Rool. Fifteen Kremkoins must be payed to access one stage in the Lost World. There are a total of 75 coins in the game, with each non-boss level containing 2 or 3 Bonus Stages. Lost World's Bonus Barrels have DK Coins instead of Kremkoins, and only one per stage. Defeating a boss for the first time also rewards the Kongs with a Kremkoin.
Donkey Kong Land 2
In Donkey Kong Land 2, the amount was shortened to 47, due to memory limitations on the Game Boy, and they all had to be payed up front at Klubba's Kiosk near Gloomy Gulch in order to access Lost World.
Trivia
- In the first level of the game, Pirate Panic, a trick can be performed to obtain all 75 Kremkoins at once. This can be viewed here.
