- —Donkey Kong in the episode "Bad Hair Day" from the Donkey Kong Country animated series.
The Banana is the most common item featured in the Donkey Kong series. It appears in every single Donkey Kong Country and Donkey Kong Land title. In these games, collecting one hundred bananas will give the player an extra life. It is possible for the Kongs to collect every single banana that appears in the games. Additionally, bananas often point in the direction of secret areas, hidden items, and the end of a stage. Originally, a Banana Bunch was worth ten regular bananas.
In Donkey Kong 64, there were five colors of bananas - each color could only be collected by a specific Kong. The bananas come in single, bunches of five or balloons of ten. Bananas were needed to feed Scoff in order to allow Troff to open the door to the stage's boss.
Banana Bunches
A Banana Bunch is a group of bananas usually worth ten bananas. They were first featured in Donkey Kong Country and reappeared in the other games in the series. In Donkey Kong Country, Donkey Kong could find Banana Bunches by pounding the ground. Later, in Donkey Kong 64, Banana Bunches were worth five bananas. Additionally, Banana Bunches could only be collected by a Kong whose color matched it. Three giant Banana Bunches appeared in Donkey Kong Jungle Beat at the end of each stage in the Banana Kingdom. When Donkey Kong bites one of these Banana Bunches, juice will pour out, and the stage will end. In Mario Kart 64, the Banana Bunch consists of five Banana Peels that can be dropped on the track. Since then Banana Bunches have been normal items in the Mario Kart Series, however in Mario Kart: Double Dash!! and games after that, they only have three Bananas on them. In Mario Party 5 and the other Mario Party games after, Banana Bunches are worth five bananas. They were mainly found in Donkey Kong mini-games. In Donkey Kong Country Returns, Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D and Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, there are also Banana Bunches. Regular Banana Bunches are worth five bananas, and big ones are worth twenty bananas.
