- “With great power... comes great respect....and if you don't have respect, you have nothing.”
- ―Norman Osborn to Peter Parker
"Tangled Web" is the eighth episode of Marvel's Disney+ series Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. It premiered on February 12, 2025.
Synopsis
Norman gives Spider-Man an ultimatum, causing Peter to do some soul searching.
Plot
Peter is tended to by Oscorp doctors, though Osborn assures him that his identity is still confidential. He is also shown to have healed quickly from his wounds due to his abilities and his whereabouts have been covered to May by stating that he was with Harry last night. Osborn tells Peter that his failure to beat Gargan was due to him holding back and that he needs him to be at his most, warning that if he does not shapen up, their relationship will be terminated.
Peter quietly leaves the medical bay and makes his way down to the labs where he learns that Amadeus, Jeanne, and Asha have successfully built his power battery, causing Wittman to begrudgingly admit that Peter's experiment was a success. He tells everyone including Connors that he was mugged, but is fine now, though he notices that Oscorp seems to be bringing in a lot of animals for experimentation.
Peter makes his way home where he tells May that his injuries are due to Harry teaching him how to skateboard. They continue to reminisce over life with Ben and the fact that he is no longer with them. Meanwhile, Octavius's hideout is swarmed with SWAT team members. While he manages to knock out a few, he is quickly captured by more with the help of Iron Man.
The next day, Peter attempts to call Nico to apologize before getting a call from Pearl asking that he come over to help with her science homework. At her house, the two bond over their shared current issues, before Lonnie shows up. Pearl and Lonnie argue over the appearance of the Scorpion, with Lonnie admitting that he is sticking it out with the One Tenths as they are the only people standing up to Gargan. Pearl, upset over this decision, finally ends things with him. Peter chases down Lonnie and tries to get him to reconsider, but he refuses.
Lonnie and the rest of the One Tenths meet with benefactor, Dmitri, who is now under the alias Chameleon, who reveals the whereabouts of Octavius's old lab, though he warns them that they have to move quickly. Peter goes to see Osborn who continues to warn him about the use of his powers and leaves him with the notion, "With great power comes great respect". Harry tells Peter that while his father may be right, he is not Spider-Man and needs to earn respect the way he knows is right for him. They hear a police signal for a crime happening and Harry reveals that he helped put together a new suit for Peter, the one that Peter had sketched earlier.

Trivia
- The title is a reference to the Spider-Man comic run Spider-Man's Tangled Web.
- The title card mirrors the scene in the comic storyline "Spider-Man No More!" from Amazing Spider-Man #50, where Peter abandons his suit in an alleyway. The scene would later be recreated in Spider-Man 2.
- Uncle Ben appears in photo form in this episode. This marks the first time Uncle Ben makes an appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
- Norman Osborn quotes "With great power...comes great respect", a twisted version of the staple Spider-Man quote "with great power comes great responsibility".
- Dimitri begins wearing the Chameleon mask in this episode.
- Harry says "go get 'em, tiger" to Peter, which is often said by Mary Jane Watson in Spider-Man media.
- Peter comments that if anyone is hurt by the Scorpion, it will be because of him. This echoes what Peter says to Tony in Captain America: Civil War: "When you can do the things that I can, but you don't, and then the bad things happen, they happen because of you".
- Iron Man's suit is more comic book accurate compared to his suits in the live-action films. His appearance is based on Robert Downey Jr.'s portrayal of the character. Iron Man is voiced by Mick Wingert, who voiced a different incarnation in several episodes of What If...?
- One of the doctors says that Spider-Man is "just a kid", which is what one of the bystanders said about Spider-Man in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 2.
- When Otto leaves his hideout, he does a dance slide that is similar to the one Peter Parker did in Spider-Man 3.
- Nico only has a cameo role in this episode, in Peter's dream and her voice is only heard when he leaves her a voicemail.
- Peter mentions that uncle Ben used to take him to Conney Island, which was featured in Spider-Man: Homecoming and mentioned in Captain America: The First Avenger.
