Carla Connors is a character who appears in the Marvel Comics animated series Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. She works for Oscorp and Peter gets assigned to assist her in the energy department as part of his internship, attempting to build something similar to that of the Stark ARC Reactor. She is an alternate version of the Lizard.
Dr. Connors was created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko.
Background
Sometime before 2015, Carla started working for Norman Osborn at Oscorp, but lost her arm from an unknown accident.
Role in the series
Cara Connors first appears in "The Parker Luck", where she introduces herself to Peter Parker, the new intern at Oscorp. She works alongside Peter to build a generator and Peter misses the party with Nico because he is working on the project. Carla then appears again in "Hitting the Big Time". She and the interns continue their work on their science projects for Osborn, where they must do a presentation.
In "Tangled Web", Carla greets Peter when he returns to Oscorp following his injury from the Scorpion the night before. When everyone asks what happened, Peter covers up that he has been mugged after one of the interns asked if he had been. Peter, not wanting to reveal he is Spider-Man, says he was indeed mugged and apologises for missing lessons. Cara comforts Peter and tells him not to worry and just rest at home. Cara shows a lot of care for Peter and concern for his safety after seeing him with a sling and beaten up. In the season finale, Cara and the interns follow Norman to a warehouse where they learn he has used all their inventions to access the galaxy, when Doctor Strange tells Norman to stop, seeing him as a threat. However, the location is attacked by Venom, which came through a portal with Strange in the first episode. Dr. Connors and the others leave in a hurry as Peter suits up as Spider-Man and assists Strange in defeating Venom.
Trivia
- Carla is a gender swapped variant of Curt Connors.
- This is the second time where a gender swapped variant of a Spider-Man villain appears. The first was Olivia Octavius/Dr. Octopus in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, voiced by Kathryn Hahn.
- However, this is the first time the Lizard has been gender swapped.
- This is also the first time an incarnation of Lizard is dark skinned rather than light skinned.
