- “I still got plenty of fuel! Pure butane, baby! I'll torch everything, and I'll torch you too!”
- ―Butane threatening Spider-Man[src]
Butane is a Marvel Comics character that appeared in Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man.
He is a pyromaniac and goon for hire who relishes the chance to use his fire based weaponry to set anything ablaze. He begins to stir up a commotion and puts others in danger, thus forcing Spider-Man to stop him.
Butane was created by Alan Davis.
Background
Personality
Butane is a pyromaniac who who takes pleasure and pride in his "work". He is constantly declaring the grand quality of his fire making and gets excited over burning things down. However, he is honest and apparently respects the distance of others as he made sure that no one was in the building, stating that he is "not a monster". He's not very bright though, as Spider-Man was quick to point out that he was burning the wrong building.
Physical appearance
Butane appears to be a heavyset man adorned in a heavy fire protective equipment. A large black sweater, black and yellow fireproof vest, heavy cargo pants, and boots, and a welder mask with flames painted on it. He carries two large mechanical gauntlets that blast fire.
Trivia
- In the comics, Butane was a person who was transformed into a fire powered being by Mad Jim Jaspers, and was among several other "Warpies" who was being hunted by RCX to become part of a super human army. He was later depowered by Captain Britain. Just like his comic counterpart, Butane was never given a real name.
- Some outlets mistakenly called the character Scorcher, a separate character from the comics. Ironically, this version of Butane does share closer similarities to that named villain than his own.
