She also was appalled how her race had been reduced among humans to silly stories and the objects of laughter which frightened children. She wished to annihilate mankind by staying in the shadows, never showing her face and speaking with a raspy voice.

Opal Koboi is first seen talking to to Artemis Jr., telling him that she has captured his dad, recapping that his father stole something from her and hid it as his enemies prevented him from retrieving it himself, telling Artemis Jr. to find the Aculos or he will never see his father again in three days. Later, Koboi approaches Briar Cudgeon who tells him to be a commander again, telling him that she convinced the executors to grant him a pardon after his court-martial, telling him that Commander Root was powerless to stop it. Cudgeon then approaches Koboi who tells him that he works for her, telling him that she wants nothing that prevents him from bringing her the Aculos, planning to infiltrate Fairy Command on her behalf. Later, Artemis Sr. draws a sketch of Opal Koboi, a mysterious figure whom he met before his disappearance.

Having captured Artemis Sr., Koboi tells him that his son has kidnapped a fairy, much to Artemis' father telling her why she is doing this to him, which Koboi tells him that she wants revenge against Artemis Jr.'s father, telling him that the not only the humans attacked her, but as soon as her species was gone, she tells him that he reduced them to stories to entertain people, telling him that fairies and humans cannot be together, planning to take revenge against the Aculos so that she can release her army to take over the Earth and both worlds, planning to restore every fairy back to existence seeing humans as a threat to fairies. Later when Mulch opens the safe behind the portrait of Artemis' father in the portrait gallery in Fowl Manor, Koboi tells Cudgeon that the Aculos has been found, telling him that if he wishes the survive and thrive in his world, he will intervene. Just as Koboi plans to kill Artemis' father, the magic of the Aculos rescues Artemis' father from Koboi just as Artemis is happy to see his father back much to Koboi's breakdown.
