Harvine was a rogue necromancer.
Biography
Harvine sought to empower herself and lengthen her lifespan by consuming essence from souls. She targeted the Immortals and Shadows for this purpose,[1] justifying her decision by reasoning that it won't affect the Balance as they are already likely to die due to their Cycle of Strife.[2]
She attacked an Immortal Hideout and killed everyone—Immortals and Shadows, inside. A single shadow survived the initial onslaught by hiding behind a shelf, but was shortly found and killed. The harvested souls were bound and trapped in runic circles[1] (to prevent external interference) where they would be stressed until they fade, leaving their essence behind.[2]
Sadly, most of the souls were weak ("mere motes", as Harvine referred them to as) and didn't last long before fading. Only four souls remained, with three already reduced to shades. The final soul still wasn't strong enough, so Harvine left to look for others.[1]

Her search led her to the Mad King's Breach. While there, another shadow—this one bearing a more tempered soul, confronted her. Deducing that they must have met the the still aware soul, she offered to release her victim if they trade places with her. She then retreated before her opponent could attack, leaving her skeleton minions to cover her escape.[1]

Back in the hideout, Harvine began to personally torment Selby (the intact soul) to quicken her fading. She was interrupted by the tempered shadow, and the two began to battle. Harvine absorbed essence from the bound souls to empower herself when her opponent gained the upper hand, but Selby possessed her. Though she didn't lose full control of her body, she was hindered enough to eventually be killed.[1]
