Rest is a player stat that is used to interact with the environment, be it picking up items or forcing open a vending machine. Unlike hunger /
thirst, rest is not used in combat, and can not be restored using items, but instead the player must rest their character in one of various ways:
Campfire:
- Spawn campfire - The campfire near a zone's spawn will automatically completely fill a player's rest even if the fire is not at 80.
- Player made campfire - This requires a fire starter (which can give different initial fire values), and optionally items made of wood, cloth, or paper can be thrown on the fire to increase the rest it provides.
- Unlit campfire - All zones have an unlit campfire somewhere on the map. While these seem pointless at first glance, these actually provide a specific function other than aesthetics. If you light an unlit campfire without adding any fuel to the fire, you'll get a special campfire where you cannot eat or drink like normal, will not lose your current food buffs, and also will not turn in experience, which is useful if a player wants to restore their rest without resetting their threat level. A second special property of the unlit campfire is that all types of fire starters will always restore 50 rest.
Bed - The bed is another special way to restore rest, and can only be performed on a bed the player owns in their camp. Resting on a bed will completely restore rest, remove any symptoms relating to rest, and turn in experience, but will not remove the player's current food buffs.
- Eating food / water in excess at a campfire - If you eat food at a campfire and the amount of food / water you gain goes over it's respective cap, some of that lost food / water value will convert to rest, even going over the player's rest cap.
