Fate is Jared Stevens, an adventurer and superhero with occult powers. He inherited the equipment of Doctor Fate from Kent Nelson and Inza Cramer. This includes the Amulet of Anubis, the Cloak of Destiny, and the Helmet of Fate, all of which he repurposed into a new sleeker costume. He was later killed by Mordru, and Hector Hall became his successor.
Fate was created by John Francis Moore and Anthony Williams, first appearing in Fate #0 (1994).
