The Yari Mini-Sub is rather frail, being best used for recon and harassment against poorly protected enemy facilities, since it cannot target air or ground, and must surface to fire. In numbers they can beat back stronger vessels like the Assault destroyer, Akula sub and Naginata cruiser, or achieve great value by using its Last Voyage ability, though said assault destroyer's main gun, advanced base defenses and torpedoes still pose a threat, as are Dolphins.

Last Voyage
The Yari Minisub can kamikaze itself into an enemy unit or structure, sacrificing itself for the Emperor and causing moderate to heavy damage in a radius around it.

Trivia
- The word "Yari" (kanji: 槍) from the name of the submersible means "spear" in Japanese.
- Yari mini-subs are based on many Japanese midget submarines and the Kaiten crewed torpedoes and suicide craft used by the Imperial Japanese Navy during the Pacific War.
- Yari's Last Voyage ability can damage a small radius around the explosion, making grouped units an obvious target.
- If Yari is ordered to suicide attack itself to an enemy unit but fails (The target unit is already destroyed by the time Yari reaches it), it will now move at twice it's speed.
