Butch is a tire thief that is found in a house on the outskirts of Sandpolis by the lighthouse. He is wanted by Captain Rombo for stealing tires. When confronting him initially, he comes off as suspicious, questioning who the protagonist is and demands them to not look around or at him before shooing them off.

After talking to Captain Rombo who will tell the protagonist about Butch being a wanted Choro-Q, the protagonist will once more confront Butch. Butch will be surprised that the protagonist knows about him. They will also point out the tires behind him, and thus, he gives up and states that he will turn himself in, thus completing Stamp 30. Later on, after returning to Captain Rombo, Butch will be found at his place once more, stating that thanks to the protagonist, he had came to his sense of what he was doing and had changed his life around. In return, he will provide the protagonist with a set of HG Off-Road tires.

It is noted that there is an associated e-mail sent by Butch explaining to the protagonist that he could not tell them face to face but he had reformed.

Butch is one of the many recruitable teammate available within Sandpolis. In order to have him become recruitable, it is required to complete Stamp 30 which involves Butch turning himself in. The other requirement is to beat Butch in Desert Raceway. Afterwards, Butch will become recruitable to the team.

Butch makes a reappearance in Choro-Q HG 3 living in an alcove by the river, but instead of stealing tires, he now has a hobby of creating tires. When the protagonist firsts meets him, he is rather hostile, not liking to be stared at. Butch would apologize as they were old habits from his life as a tire thief when living in Sandpolis. He will forcefully ask the protagonist to listen to his problems, not allowing them to leave until doing so. Butch explains that he is looking for someone who is interested in the art of making tires that would be a good fit to eventually inherit his business.

After talking to Hayden, the protagonist will return to talk to Butch who will state that Hayden had stopped by and asked to become his apprentice. He will claim that Hayden has a lot to learn but believes he is rather promising, thus, thanks the protagonist. As a reward, Butch provides the protagonist a Spare Tire for their assistance.

Later on, Butch will talk about how Hayden is a slow learner, and if he wasn't working for him, he would have been thrown out of his job by now. Though, Butch states that it is always the terrible workers that the employer ends up caring for the most. In the end, Butch is glad that he had came to work for him, and clearly has the talent of a tire maker.

When the protagonist becomes the new Meister, Butch claims that the protagonist is awesome and seems so famous because of it. He will wish that Hayden would learn a couple things from the protagonist then congratulates them.

After winning the Grand Prix, Butch believes that the protagonist has achieved something that is not easily accomplished. Thus, Butch comments that the protagonist sure is something and congratulates them on their victory.

Trivia

After you catch Butch, he will say that he is not doing bad things. However, If you look in his house, it always has tires in it no matter how far you get through the game. It could be that the tires in his house is actually his own, not the stolen tires.
Butch is one of the returning characters in Choro-Q HG 3 and he now lives in Scratch Mountain and works as a tire maker.
After you got Butch to turn himself in when you visit him again he gives you free HG Off-Road tires. But it is unknown if the tires were stolen or if they were actually his own old tires.
Butch is one of the few characters in which you cannot leave unless you agree to listen to him.

Funnily, if you bring him his Frog Ornament, his dialogue will be incomplete and he will not ask you to listen to him. Although, returning will provide unique dialogue that can only be obtained if you turn in his Frog Ornament first.

Captain Rombo's name is misspelt as "Captain Rambo" when Butch mentions about him.
