- For the soundtrack, see Z-Rex (soundtrack).
The Z-Rex is the final boss of the Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Zombies map, Shattered Veil. It is a fossilized skeleton of a T-Rex that has been revived by what Edward Richtofen refers to as "residual temporal energy" following the empowerment of the Sentinel Artifact by the Ex-Requiem crew. Prior to this, it was on display in the Grand Foyer of Sam Colton Hall.
Overview
The Z-Rex is a massive beast, covered in rotting meat fused with fossilized bone. It has glowing eyes, and rot constantly spews from it's mouth. The Z-Rex is incredibly aggressive, immediately attacking Ex-Requiem upon being resurrected. Despite it's rotting appearance, the Z-Rex is incredibly agile, having been able to jump long distances and high into the air. It is also incredibly strong having been able to easily smash through walls and flip heavy objects while chasing Ex-Requiem, as well as catapult them into the air by smashing the ground with is tail.
Role in Shattered Veil
Following the completion of all other steps in the Shattered Veil Main Quest, the Z-Rex will be resurrected and will chase Ex-Requiem and Richtofen out of the Grand Foyer. It chases them to a small quarry just off the Mansions grounds, knocking Ex-Requiem in and leaving Richtofen on a ledge above the quarry. Defeating the Z-Rex completed the Main Quest.
During the battle, players must constantly fire on the Z-Rex while avoiding its multiple attacks. When players are at a distance, the Z-Rex will either attempt to spit globs of rot at the players, or will jump high in the air and land close to them. When up close, the Z-Rex will bite at players in front of it or smack it's tail on the ground to attack players behind it. This smack will catapult players into the air.
The Z-Rex can be damaged by firing on any point of it's body, but is particularly weak in it's mouth. This is best taken advantage of when it is preparing to spew rot at the players, and enough damage will cause the Z-Rex to stagger.
When the Z-Rex has taken significant damage, it will jump high onto a nearby cliff edge, and spew large amounts of rot all over the combat space. It can still be damaged at this time. It will do this three times, signifying the three damage phases it has. Upon returning for its third and final phase, the Z-Rex will be significantly more aggressive and will move significantly faster.
During the fight, Edward Richtofen is up on a cliff edge using a sniper to provide covering fire. He can target the Z-Rex and damage it, though his impact will be minimal compared to the players own.
Hard Mode
Starting the Z-Rex Fight after Round 100 activates a "Hard Mode" version of the fight. After the first phase of the fight, the map will turn green like a special round with the announcer saying "Tear them to pieces". The Z-Rex will then have the same behavior patterns it would normally have reserved for it's final damage phase.

Trivia
- If players hold the interact key while standing near the Z-Rex's tail, they will be catapulted onto the Z-Rex's back and will be able to ride it for a couple moments. During this time they can damage the Z-Rex like normal, but after a couple seconds they will be shaken off.
- The Z-Rex, as a fossil, appeared first in the cutscene for Liberty Falls. Interestingly, the fossil in the cutscene and the fossil in Shattered Veil stand in different poses.
- If players complete the "Fog Rolling In" easter egg just before beginning the Z-Rex fight, the fog will be present in the arena and Aetherium Crystals will grow within it as well.
