Yabon is a village in the Kingdom of the Isles in Betrayal at Krondor. It is the closest village to the game's starting point and can first be visited in Chapter 1. Yabon City is mentioned, but not visited, in the game's novelization, Krondor: The Betrayal.
Geography
Yabon is located on an eastward path which leaves and then loops back to the King's Highway between LaMut and the bridge leading toward Tyr-Sog. Although visiting it requires the party to travel north instead of taking the more direct southern route, it is closer to the game's starting point than LaMut.
Overview
Owyn Beleforte met Squire Phillip in Yabon at a wedding party thrown by his aunt, the Duchess. After leaving the festivities, Owyn came upon Locklear and Gorath encamped off the road just south of town.
The party can later learn from Lieutenant Finn that the unusually frigid weather around the Inclindel has driven even the Hadati hillfolk southward toward Yabon to escape the bitter cold.
Locations
- Shop: The Crossroads
- The home of Owyn's aunt. Owyn refuses to stop there, not wanting to explain why he is traveling with a moredhel.
- The home of a disheveled-looking man, not one of Owyn's relatives, who spent most of the night trying to break into a recently-shuttered laundry shop that went out of business without returning a suit of armor he had sent there to be cleaned. Telling the party they can have the armor if they can retrieve it, he leaves to get some sleep.
- The abandoned laundry shop, which can be unlocked with a Peasant's Key and contains a repairable suit of 78% Standard Kingdom Armor.
Krondor: The Betrayal
Locklear and Gorath start their journey southward from Tyr-Sog, which is near Yabon.[1] They find Owyn encamped south of Yabon, wallowing in self-pity after visiting his aunt's home in Yabon City in the distant Yabon province without telling his relatives about his quarrel with his father. As the party sets off southward, Locklear chooses not to return to Yabon for supplies so as not to run into any more pursuers.
Locklear later remarks that the realm's remaining Beast Hunters are now in the hills of northern Yabon.[2]
Trivia
- The Crossroads is the only local shop that purchases Moredhel Lampreys.
- In the Riftwar Saga, the Duchy of Yabon holds the Earldoms of LaMut and Loriél and the Baronies of Tyr-Sog, Zūn, Hawk's Hollow, Ylith, and Questor's View as vassal states.
