Long before man or dwarf came to this world, the Valheru ruled. [...] This world was their dominion. And we were their creatures.
--Queen Aglaranna of the Elves, Magician: The Author's Preferred Edition
Elves are a humanoid race dwelling on Midkemia in Betrayal at Krondor. The three ancient elven tribes, commemorated on the Elven Key of Lineages, were the eledhel, the moredhel and the glamredhel. Due to the disaster that befell the glamredhel and the hostility of the moredhel toward the world's younger races, colloquial human use of the term 'elf' generally refers to the eledhel. The game's novelization, Krondor: The Betrayal, mentions a fourth branch, the eldar.
Overview
Elves lived on Midkemia long before the development of humans or dwarves. Once slaves to the Valheru, they established new ways of living after being freed by the Chaos Wars around 2000 years ago, and their values diverged. The differences between the two remaining elven peoples are mainly ideological, and it can be difficult for an outsider to distinguish between eledhel and moredhel aside from their behavior and modes of dress.
Elven lifespans tend to be around 200 years. In general, the elven peoples are taller and stronger than most humans, and carry themselves with an innate grace. For this reason, products made for elves tend to be out of proportion for use by humans or dwarves.
