The following is an overview of Barney-related news and events that occurred in the year 1992.

Events

  • January 16: Barney makes an appearance at Gateway Learning Center for an open house in Arlington, Texas.[1]
  • March 28: The world premiere of Barney & Friends takes place in the Music Hall at Fair Park in Dallas, Texas. This event included a sing along with Barney, Baby Bop and the kids, as well as a screening of "The Treasure Of Rainbow Beard".
  • June 3: Barney, Michael, and Min appeared in Hartford, CT. They appeared on CPTV in the morning to attract membership pledges. They also appeared at the Hartford Civic Center shops from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m.[2]
  • Unknown: The beginning of Barney Mania.
  • July 26-28: Children were able to meet Barney and take photos with him. Barney prize drawings were held daily.[3]
    • Barney was available from 11AM to 1PM and 3PM to 5PM on Sunday, July 26.
    • Barney was available from 1PM to 4PM on Monday, July 27.
    • Barney was available from 12PM to 4PM on Tuesday, July 28.
  • October 1-December 20: To promote JCPenney's Barney Spot boutiques, Barney toured malls across the US.[4][5]

Merchandise

  • January: The Lyons Group forms a licensing division after striking a deal with JCPenney, which agrees to open Barney shops in its 1,600 stores nationwide.[6]
  • November 26: At the Early Learning Centre Toy Store, parents had to add their names and phone numbers to be place on a waiting list for stuffed Barney dolls.
  • December: It was confirmed that on February 1993, Hasbro will be introducing Barney toys for their Playskool line.[7]
