KOI–784.01 was a planet located in the KOI-784 System in the Far Spinward Colonies. Originally the site of a number of mining operations centered around the colony Dylan City, society on KOI–784.01 collapsed after the FSC sector was isolated in 2110.
History
The Weyland era

KOI–784.01 was terraformed by Weyland Corp; however, the effort ran into trouble when the Atmosphere Processing Plant assigned to the planet experienced systemic failure. After an eight–year gap, terraforming resumed in 2062. An independent science team deduced that indigenous subterranean single–cell lifeforms had caused the processor to break down, though the team's recommendation to bring a halt to the colonization endeavor was ignored by Weyland Corp. The project was completed in 2069 and Dylan City, a precious metal mining colony, was established thereafter; the colony became a thriving center of industry for the Far Spinward Colonies. Along with the rest of the FSC, KOI–784.01 later became a member world of the Three World Empire following its formation in 2088.
The Isolation
In 2110, a series of cosmic events isolated the Far Spinward Colonies from the greater Middle Heavens, with Dylan City being one of the settlements affected. The population of KOI–784.01 was hit hard by the incident, and society eventually dissolved in 2145. A large amount of the citizenry retreated into the world's jungles surrounding Dylan City and turned feral over time, while the remainder abandoned Dylan City proper and took refuge in shanty towns hastily established on high plateaus. The latter group formed a dictatorship of sorts, with the descendants of the Weyland Corp executives holding sway. The Weylanders, as they became known, attempted to use the atmosphere processor to kill the ferals by releasing dangerous phosgene gas from the facility; this action resulted in damage to the localized biosphere.
Trouble brewing
In 2186, a Heliades-class vessel carrying refugees from the Xenomorph–worshiping cult known as the Children of the Two Divines—as well as a Xenomorph egg—crashed on KOI–784.01. The refugees were given accomodation by the Weylanders; however, they were located by cult member Mother Ma'Kayla and her forces. Shortly after, an expedition from the United Nations Interstellar Settlement Corps' Great Mother Mission arrived on KOI–784.01 aboard the UNCSS Solovetsky Island, and the two groups clashed.
Climate and terrain
Though its atmosphere was breathable, KOI–784.01's climate was overbearingly humid, with a mean temperature of 48°C. The planet's primary terrain consisted of craggy mountains and high plateaus honeycombed with subterranean caverns, as well as large tracts of jungle. KOI–784.01 also featured extensive oceans and volcanic island chains.
Economy
Resources on KOI–784.01 included gold, titanium, and hematite.
Population
Though reported to number 90,000 in 2071, the population of KOI–784.01 in fact stood at 40,000. As of 2186, with a number of people having perished in the interim, the population was divided into two groups, with those not retaining civilized practices devolving into barbarism.
Points of interest
The Dylan City colony was located on KOI–784.01, as were several additional mining outposts. A large mining facility was located due northeast of Dylan City. Following societal collapse, the survivors established a makeshift camp on a plateau near Dylan City, which was left to fall into disrepair.
