Rifts are strange portals created by Null in Echoes of Wisdom. They appeared across Hyrule and swallowed pieces of the land into the Still World. Rifts were created by Null in order to pull the land of Hyrule into the Still World and erase it, reverting the world into the void it once was before the Golden Goddesses created Hyrule. Once things were pulled into rifts they would fade away until they're irreversibly erased from existence entirely, this include people who were pulled into rifts.
Null's rifts could be be fixed by the power of the Tris, small yellow beings created by the Golden Goddesses, who seal up the rifts and return everything back to it's original place in the world.
