Pigs are generally peaceful animals that struggle in vain when picked up in The Wind Waker. They come in three varieties: pink, black, and pink with black spots. Link can catch and hold a Pig if he gets close to one, by either sneaking up or running at it.[1] He can also lure one close by spreading All-Purpose Bait on the ground next to a Pig.[2] Pigs love to eat, and if they are fed All-Purpose Bait, they might dig up Rupees, Morths, and Items from the ground, including a Piece of Heart. If a Pig is attacked too many times, even hit by enemies, it will turn red in anger and relentlessly retaliate against Link. If there are any nearby Pigs, they will also attack him, much like the Cucco's Revenge Squad. The Pigs will stop chasing Link if he enters a building or goes to a place where they can't reach him, like on top of a high object or in a body of water. While an angry Pig is charging after the Hero of Winds, it will destroy any Grass, Vases and even Enemies in its way. When hit, Link will lose one Heart Container in damage.
Before Link visits the Forsaken Fortress for the first time, the young hero can assist Abe and capture a Pig for his wife, Rose, who will thank him with 20 Rupees after it is placed in their pen.[3] Link can capture the two other Pigs on Outset Island and receive additional increments of 20 Rupees for each of them.[4] When Link returns to Outset Island after placing all three Pigs in the pen, he will find that only one, very large Pig is present. If Link speaks to Rose, she will claim two other Pigs ran away though Zill implies the family actually ate them for dinner.[5] The remaining fully grown Pig is named after Link, and it can be provoked as well. Although it is normally quite slow in movement, it runs just as fast as its smaller counterparts when it charges, and because of its size, it is significantly more dangerous - dealing three Hearts of damage if Link is hit by it. After Link has obtained the Power Bracelets, he can pick the giant Pig up and carry it, but his walking will be inhibited as though he is wearing the Iron Boots.

The Wind Waker | Cute creatures that roam the land. They are usually pink or black but are also sometimes patterned or even miniature. Perhaps due to their timid natures, they tend to run away when approached. To catch them, you need to creep towards them ever so slowly. Throwing them in the water will reveal that they can swim back to the shore, not by "doggy-paddling" but by "piggy-paddling". | Random |

Trivia
- One of the Pigs on Windfall Island releases gas when Link picks it up, with little, green clouds periodically coming out of its rear.
- If Link carries a Pig for a particularly long time, it will eventually begin attacking him.
- Although the Figurine of Pigs for the Nintendo Gallery shows a fully-grown pink Pig, none of such in this color are found in the game, as only the black one in Outset Island is present.
- Ganon, Link's archenemy and main antagonist of The Legend of Zelda series, is often associated with Pigs, as he appears to be an anthropomorphic boar in most games. However, the Dark Beast himself is actually a Demon.
