Hello, everyone.

―Tanigox

Motoaki Tanigou (谷郷元昭) (birthday: December 10), also known as YAGOO, is the CEO of Cover Corporation, the company behind the VTuber agency hololive production.

Content

As a YouTuber, YAGOO's videos primarily consist of his office's landscape using a 360° camera, as well as showcases of Cover Corp's inventions. On January 10, 2021, he posted a video where he introduced himself in English, which quickly became the most viewed video of his channel as well as a topic of talk among both hololive VTubers and fans.

History

Before hololive

Before hololive, Tanigo found success in developing characters for video games alongside major Japanese companies such as Sanrio and Imagineer. He would later go on to form Cover Corporation on June 13, 2016 with the intent of innovating upon virtual and augmented reality software. Receiving funds from the incubator firms Tokyo VR Startups and Recruit, the company produced and released their first game, Ping Pong League, on Steam.

By the end of March 2017, the company unveiled a tech demo demonstrating what is now commonly referred to as "VTuber software", in which a digital avatar is controlled by a person using face-capture technology. The first to use this technology for streams and entertainment purposes would be Tokino Sora, who would later come to be known as the first member of hololive.

Growth and expansion of hololive

As hololive expanded, so did Tanigo's renown, and eventually, during a stream by Oozora Subaru and Roboco, Subaru misread the kanji for Tanigo's name as Yagoo, thus the YAGOO nickname was born. Following this, an interview of YAGOO explaining hololive surfaced on the r/hololive subreddit, in which he introduced hololive as an idol company similar to the famous AKB48. Because of the rather suggestive situations hololive members find them in, as well as the sexual jokes they make, many fans have created memes about how "YAGOO's dream of running an idol company is dead." Since then, many hololive fans have grown a respect for YAGOO, even calling him the "best girl."

Collaborations

Despite what you'd expect from your average CEO, YAGOO likes to collaborate with and appear on streams and videos with the hololive members often, the most common of these streams and videos being interviews, although that's not all he does with the talents.

YAGOO's first stream appearance was on October 8, 2019 on Ookami Mio's channel, in which, alongside Mio, he got his fortune told regarding what hobbies he should pick up for the weekend by a professional fortune teller.

On January 4, 2020, YAGOO appeared alongside several members of holostars, including Astel Leda, Hanasaki Miyabi, Rikka, Arurandeisu, Kishido Temma, and Yukoku Roberu, as well as the holostars manager, Daidou Shinove, in a large Mario Kart 8 collaboration. This would be his first collaboration with the holostars branch.

On January 10, 2020, he appeared on Rikka's channel to play Mahjong Soul. Many fans noted that his voice sounded a bit lower than usual in this stream.

On January 12, 2021, he appeared on Houshou Marine's channel, in which he attempted to explain to her in English that, while her content is good, it's not necessarily family friendly.

YAGOO has appeared twice on Omaru Polka's The Legend of Polka comedy series, once on April 29, 2021, where he asked Polka for advice regarding the pain on his right shoulder, and another time on September 23, 2021, where he discussed the ping pong game he helped develop before hololive's creation.

On June 29, 2021, Kiryu Coco interviewed YAGOO on her channel. He took the form of a cardboard cutout of himself. This would be one of the last things Coco did before she graduated.

On November 11, 2021, he appeared on Tsukumo Sana's channel during a holocouncil collab, in which he read out a joke letter written by Sana and her fans explaining that hololive needs more horses under its talent umbrella.

On January 13, 2022, YAGOO appeared on Shishiro Botan's channel, in which he answered a couple questions regarding hololive's future plans for a metaverse and a connected continuity and world.

On January 23, 2022, YAGOO appeared as the 20th guest of Takanashi Kiara's HOLOTALK interview series. Unlike Coco's interview, he was able to appear as himself, rather than a cutout.

On January 30, 2022, YAGOO helped Takane Lui host a quiz for the other hololive members, including Shishiro Botan, Oozora Subaru, Nekomata Okayu, and La+ Darkness, in which the four answered questions related to YAGOO and his life and likes.

Trivia

  • He had used both YouTube and Twitter for many years before both platforms became popular in Japan.
  • The nickname "YAGOO" originates from a collab between Oozora Subaru and Roboco-san, where the former accidentally pronounced his surname as "Yagou" (the kanji 谷 is often read as "ya" in a person's name).
  • Airani Iofifteen thought he was a staff member during the process of auditioning.
    • Similarly, Nanashi Mumei doesn't recognize him at all, which quickly became an unintentional source of comedy.
  • Despite not outwardly saying it, it's quite apparent that YAGOO's favorite hololive member, or oshi, is Oozora Subaru, as he mentioned his favorite hololive moment was Subaru's birthday concert and that he frequently glances at the Subaru acrylic stand on his desk.
