Lachlan Windross,[1] better known online as SunnyV2, is an Australian commentary YouTuber known for his video essays surrounding content creators or other notable people, most commonly in stories of decline or outright downfall.

He began on YouTube creating gaming videos, mainly on the popular games Fortnite and RuneScape. In 2020, he started to branch out into the documentary-esque videos he is now known for. He has since amassed over 4 million subscribers as of July 2024.

History

Sunny originally began as a RuneScape YouTuber under the alias 'Might of Sun', inspiring his future name. He did a few gameplays. However, he was in university at the time so he had to stop it. After a few months, his interest in the game drifted away. He graduated from university and got advice from his friends to start playing a new game called Fortnite. He was hooked to the game, doing some Fortnite gameplay on his channel. Soon afterwards, he didn't feel Might of Sun would succeed due to the lack of quality and effort. Sunny then started a new channel with better quality and more time and effort put into the videos, to try and get a better reception.

Sunny started this channel to some sort of success, getting a few thousand subscribers. He then uploaded some YouTuber documentaries, which picked up on YouTube. He then started to do more, and eventually made a series on YouTuber downfalls.

SunnyV2's downfall series details on the growth and downfall of YouTubers who were once well-known. He started the downfall series focused on ONLYUSEmeBLADE. Sunny covered his journey on YouTube as well as exposing him by explaining the controversies he had gotten into. Later on, he covered ShoeNice. The videos got few hundred thousand views, which was about average for Sunny's viewership at that time. This changed when Sunny uploaded "The Many Scams & Downfall of Machinima (2006 - 2019)" which currently sits at 3.3 million views. This secured the fact that people were interested in the downfall videos, so Sunny continued producing more.

After the Machinima video, SunnyV2 uploaded "The Impossible Downfall of Stampy (2006 - 2020)". The video went viral, and currently sits on 6.5 million views, which is his second most popular video (the most popular being 'The Tragic Transformation of Nikocado Avocado (from 155 to 352 lbs)'.) He made other downfall videos of Stampy's YouTube associates such as IBallisticSquid and L for Leeeeee x, which also performed very well on YouTube. Sunny is and will continue the downfall series for the foreseeable future, with more videos on people like Sky Does Minecraft, LionMaker, PopularMMOs and Bajan Canadian.

In late 2021 through early 2022 his channel would see a spike of popularity after uploading a series of videos he has also branched out his contact and has talked about the mysterious deaths of both rappers Mac Miller and XXXTENTACION.

He also received more views and subscribers from a video of his on how primitive building videos on YouTube are staged, with the exception of the original primitive building channel Primitive Technology. This video gained over 9 million views in 11 days.

Controversy

Kris Tyson video and transphobia allegations

On April 13, 2023, SunnyV2 uploaded a video titled "Why Chris Will Soon Be A Nightmare For MrBeast." The video touches on long-time MrBeast crew member Kris Tyson's recent gender transitioning, and how it could affect MrBeast, as well as channel and brand as a whole. While the video gained traction, it generated significant turmoil and debate across the internet. In just one week, the video held a rating of around 267,000 likes to 192,000 dislikes (~58% positive rating), the most divided response ever to one of his videos.

Some fans and creators accused the video of being insensitive and invasive. Commentary YouTubers such as j aubrey[2] and Ali Koca[3] released statements on Twitter criticizing the video, while others such as AugustTheDuck,[4] Big Joel,[5] and D'Angelo Wallace[6] made videos on the subject. Some users started resurfacing his older content, and how he treated users with specific preferred pronouns. In his video "The Scumbag TikToker Who Faked Tourettes For Clout", uploaded in February 2022, he refers to Ticsandroses by feminine pronouns throughout the entire video, though their account showed that they preferred they/them.[1]

MrBeast also commented on the situation,[7] calling SunnyV2's video transphobic.
